  • I can't recall ever receiving a blessing from one when I was younger. If so they didn't have you kneel.

Maybe they don't teach that in the n.o. seminary.  Maybe they're not priests.  In case of the latter, any Catholic can "bless" another.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

Maybe you should ask them for their blessing.

Well if he doesn't ask you, maybe he forgot. Why not just ask for his blessing if he forgets. Nobody is perfect.

Not at all. It is not usual practice for NO priests to volunteer to bless a person, but I believe many would be happy to impart one if asked. You might find a rare exception.

It would also depend on the circuмstances of the meeting. If you were in a hospital bed and the priest was on call at the hospital, you could be pretty assured of a blessing, but it you happen to run into him in the street it is unlikely.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • I've never met any priest, traditional, NO, or otherwise, who asks to bless people.  It has always been the other way around (the layman asking the priest for a blessing).

I've also never met any priest, traditional, NO, or otherwise, who has refused a blessing when asked by a layman.

No, it isn't.  Generally the lay person asks for a blessing.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • Any time I've met in person or talked to a priest on the phone before parting ways he has asked or said he would give me a blessing.

These priest yesterday seemed very casual, I had never seen priests who wore play clothes either, kind of head spinning.
