A Catholic archbishop in the Central African Republic personally intervened to stop a man from killing a Muslim child, Voice of America reports.

Archbishop Dieudonne Nzapalainga, who was visiting a small village with a team of health-care workers, grabbed the arm of a man who was drawing a knife to kill the child. The archbishop and his group then protected the child from an angry crowd until her parents rushed her away.

Since an Islamic government was ousted from power in the Central African Republic earlier this year, Christian and animist militia groups have sought revenge against Muslims. The Catholic Church has condemned the reprisals and worked to restore peaceful ties between Christians and Muslims
