  • Does anyone know of an app that each day gives you a notification of the saint of the day? I can of course look it up but I'm trying to form the habit and think such an app would be helpful

  • Failing that, I wonder if there is an app that will notify you of things happening on given days of the calendar, and allow you to load in your content, perhaps using a spreadsheet or ASCII file.

Kind of like the Calendar function on the iPhone, but loadable and customizable.

I'll nose around and see what I can find.

  • I don't know of an app but I would suggest getting Fr. Butler's "Lives of the Saints" and reading it in the morning. Each day takes no more than 5 minutes and is based on the 1955 calendar.

  • This app (I have the Android version) has both the 1962 and 1969 liturgical calendars ... traditional and novus ordo ... I realize that some here won't consider 1962 as traditional, with the lectionary readings for each.  Scripture readings are from the Douay-Rheims AND the Latin Vulgate.

iPieta is a free Catholic app that contains many classic Catholic prayers and works for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. The content can be downloaded from the internet and will remain on the device unless the user removes it.

The organization of content and the app’s features varies with the type of device. In general, the content is divide by Prayer, Bibles, Church Calendar, and Veritas. Veritas, which is latin for “truth”, contains many classic doctrinal works. Although the extent of content is vast, particular data can be accessed quickly and easily by efficient navigation techniques including tabs, bookmarks, indexed tables, and search bars.
The app is limited by the availability of material with requisite permissions. Please contact us if you would like to have a work, which requisite permissions, included in iPieta. We would be delighted to include appropriate credits and internet links to the source for the work.

At least as to the traditional aspect (though 1962), this is exactly what I had in mind, and no need to import any information from a spreadsheet.  I've downloaded it to my iPhone.

    Thanks for making this accessible.

I used this today at Mass, and it was great, however, I'd like to find a way to suppress the English translation on the right-hand side.  It's distracting, and it makes both columns very narrow.

It's also not that easy to maneuver, however, maybe I just don't know how to use it yet.
