  •   In a trad website there was a picture of 2 seminarians kissing, the website concluded that they were guilty of sodomy!
I wonder if it is sinful for people of the same gender to kiss one an other. It is a costom here in my country, and men embrace, shake hands and kiss when they meet, so do womem, And nobody thinks it is bad.
      Is it really sinful?

  • That'd be one of those instances where custom does make a difference to the morality of an act, I guess.

  • No, that is not sinful. Even people in Biblical days practiced that custom. I'm 25% Italian, and I know this is also a custom in Italy, and probably in other Mediterranean countries too.

  • It all depends on the circuмstances.  If a father kisses his son on the cheek, then it's not sinful (it's still gross in my book).  If two sodomites kiss on the lips, then that would be mortally sinful.

In the Muslim Arab world it is also the custom for males to hold hands as a sign of friendship and affection. Personally, I think it's disgusting - I don't care if it is the custom. Christian Arab men only kiss each other on the cheek, however - like the Europeans do.

Here's former President Bush holding hands and kissing with the king of Saudi Arabia. I'm sure he must have felt very awkward.  :laugh1:

  • Eeeew, right on the lips like that. That's gross. I don't even kiss my children on the lips, only the cheek. I'm sorry, I'm too Irish for that. I'll have none of  it.

  •   In my culture, people around you are categorized into two groups:
1- mahrams: People among whom there is a marriage impediment :all people of your own gender plus those of the opposite sex who are your: parent, siblings, aunts/ancles,grandparents,grand children, spouse, grand aunts/uncles, also your father in law and mother in law. Also every young child and the family who may have nursed you as a baby.

2-not mahrams: People who don't have a marriage impediment with you.

Now, kissing, embracing, shaking and holding hands and even looking at the body of people of group 1 (exluding the reproductive organs) is allowed on the condition that you don't do it in order to get carnal pleasure. (With spouses it is different)
about the 2nd group: one must have head covering and not to touch any part of their body.(unless it is an emergency)

Why are you annoyed at two men kissing but not at 2 stranger man and woman kissing???? Sin can exist in both cases and most of people are heteroes. therefore the latter has more chance of leading one to sin.

A man kissing another man on the lips is not natural. A man kissing a woman on the lips is natural. I don't think a boyfriend/girlfriend giving each other a quick kiss on the lips will lead one to temptation. It's only the prolonged kissing that would lead to temptation.

This custom of holding hands and kissing came about as a result of the Arab Muslim culture that segregated men and women. Men spend a lot of time together and so emotions and feelings were re-directed to each other. That is how the custom came about.

It's just another culture, don't let it worry you. To the normal Western mind, it's reeeally freaky.

  • In fact, that's got to be a fake picture. I can't even really believe that George W would kiss a man, much less hold hands with a man. It's all a gag.

Maybe the kissing one is fake, but the holding hands one is definitely real - it was on the news.

Just culture.  A kiss need not be lascivious in any way.
