If NYC dumps its specialized high schools, here’s what will happen. The students who make the grade and get into these highly competitive schools will A) parents will send them to private schools because B) private schools will get lots of funding for scholarships to keep the talent in NYC. Or, C) people will pull up stakes and move to cities and other countries that have these type of schools, which means that D) the NYC DOE will lose a significant number of students in addition to those already gone with wind of Covid. E) NYC’s public schools will lay off hundreds of teachers in addition to those already let go. F) Teachers will move out of the city in search of more remunerative districts because they can then afford to live outside of the city. G) NYC public schools will be like Detroit’s and Baltimore’s.  H) But take heart! Black and Hispanic students will abound, because these are the offspring of the invasion of immigrants, most of whom are poor. Public school will be their only option for financial reasons, at least for a generation or two. The academic standards will have to be lowered to meet the needs of students where English is not the predominant language and the quality of education in most of their countries of origin is markedly lower than in the US.
I can think of one advantage. Are all the CINOs, and Muslims going to tolerate their children being taught the “woke” agenda?  The Muslims at least, won’t go in for their kids secretly switching genders?  This could get interesting.  The DOE may have to fire the five drag queens they keep on their payroll. (That’s a fact, not an exaggeration.)
