  • Newsflash - Americans are stupid and short sighted. They are like irrational animals that live in the eternal present. They can't conceive of a time that is different from what they are experiencing right this moment. They don't plan ahead at all. I know children that are more rational than that!

"Whenever gas prices go down, buyers go out and buy the largest vehicles they can," said Michelle Krebs, analyst with AutoTrader.com.

Cheap gas reignites America's love affair with gas guzzlers
By Chris Isidore  @CNNMoney November 3, 2014: 3:52 PM ET

Drivers are buying large SUVs and pickups again now that gas is cheap.

    NEW YORK (CNNMoney)
Cheap gas prices have reignited America's love affair with gas-guzzling cars and trucks.

Sales of many SUV's and pickups shot up in October, as gas prices slid to $3 and below in much of the country.

"Customers were waiting for gas under $3 pull the trigger on large vehicles," said Jesse Toprak, chief analyst for Cars.com.
Fiat Chrysler posted a 52% jump in sales of its Jeep SUV brand and a 36% rise in sales of its Ram trucks. Meanwhile sales of its fuel efficient Fiat models were essentially flat.

"Whenever gas prices go down, buyers go out and buy the largest vehicles they can," said Michelle Krebs, analyst with AutoTrader.com.
Even the Hummer H2 saw a jump in sales on the used car market, according to Kelley Blue Book. General Motors (GM) discontinued the line as part of its 2009 bankruptcy.

Meanwhile sales of many small, fuel efficient models, such as the electric Chevrolet Volt, tumbled along with prices at the pump. Sales of the Toyota Prius, the best selling hybrid on the market, fell 13.5% for the month.
Hybrid and plug-in vehicles generally cost more than those with traditional gas engines, said Toprak, but "the premium makes less and less sense as gas prices fall."

However there were some fuel efficient cars with strong sales. Many smaller gas-powered cars, like the Chevrolet Cruze and the Honda Fit, also enjoyed strong sales.

  • I mean, seriously!

4 years of gas in the $3 - $4 range.

Then gas has a temporary dip below $3 for a couple months, and they forget all the hard lessons they learned and they run out and buy an expensive SUV (which generally has a higher sticker price than a smaller car as well).

Talk about stupid. No wonder the Jєωs have most of them right where they want them. They live by emotion and greed.

  • Wait after today, the elections.  Them the price of fuel will go
    straight back up.
The fall in gas prices is designed to boost the Democrats and
    Obama.
And, I am afraid it is working because people have short
    memories.

I thought of this as well.

It's also part of the huge conspiracy to convince Americans that we're in a "recovery". Everything they can manipulate (oil/gas prices, stock market, how they calculate unemployment figures) is being artificially propped up.

Whereas REAL evidence of how the economy is doing (% of people with jobs, average income, retail sales, housing market, etc.) is giving TONS of evidence the economy is collapsing.

They'll let it collapse A) after the elections and B) after they do their little "fαℓѕє fℓαg" so they can blame it on Russia, China, Syria, ISIS, Korasan, etc.

"We were in a RECOVERY! It's not fair! Look what _____ did to us!" they will cry, and they will divert attention from themselves. Otherwise, we'd all blame them and there'd be some good ol' fashioned lynch mobs.

  • If you remember 2008, there was a temporary lowering of the
price of fuel to attempt to elect McCain, and it happened again
in 2012. After the elections the price of gas went straight back
    up.
The elites in 2008 caused a recession/depression to get Obama
elected. I am not saying that McCain would be much better, we
would had our war with Iran/Syria with serious consequences to
    the U.S.
The effects of the 2008/2014 and into the future recession/
depression is still with us. Just try to find a full time job,
with benefits and you will see what I am talking about.
Most of the new jobs are part time, in fast foods. Mostly being
    filled by legal/illegal immigrants.
So put off the gas guzzling SUV permanently.

  • This emoticon is the perfect response for this thread:

If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • SUV and trucks have always been a favorite of Americans. What they've been doing is lowering credit standards and lengthening loan terms.

Subprime is back. People don't care the price of truck, just the price per month. Average loan is now 66 months. It's now common to borrow for 72 months even the non sub prime.

It's hurting used car prices and a glut of cars will be out next year when 2011-2012 come off lease.

It will be good for those of us looking to buy used and reliable cars, but I'd urge not to buy earlier than 2012 as reliability of cars between 2007-2010 wasn't great as makers cut corners and closed factories and were bankrupt.
