  • I was always taught never to use "curse" or "cuss" words, and to do so was a venial sin.  To take the Lord's Name in vain was a mortal sin.

    But what about "alternative" curse words?  Some have told me you are just substituting one word for another, but you mean the same thing, so it is just as bad.  What do you think?

    By "alternative" curse words, I mean words like "darn," "gosh," "heck," "jeez," "crap," etc.

  • I don't know if it's a venial sin or not, but I say "oh, sugar plum fairies!" about 100 times a day...makes me feel better and makes my kids laugh.

    Something to ask the priest about I guess.

  • Those kind of words would be acceptable since they're not profane in nature.
