Ok first, I dont think your son definitely not going to be a priest. That's an unfair thing to say. Just that there is a doubt. And yes, I agree completely that we should pray that Thuc line get themselves conditionally ordained.


Anyway as to the question of who tells us what's right? Well that's the whole problem. As Bishop Williamson said it's suppose to be the Pope. Nobody else can tell us what to do in the same way, when it comes to supernatural matters.

However Archbishop Lefebvre laid out pretty simple principle; Do as the Church has always done, and always believed.

The reason I am resistance is because the Church always told her faithful to distance from error. So that rules out modernist types. From your whacky Novus Ordo to your SSPX.

Then on the flip side, the Church has always been careful when it comes to the validity of Sacraments. Which is why I cannot in conscience attend Thuc line Sacraments. No matter how nice the faithful might be, and no matter how many sede friends I have. And I do have many.


Bishop Williamson didn't really verbalize it in this way, but he acted on it. Which is why he consecrated Bishops. He certainly had regrets about some of them, but he was man enough to admit he made mistakes. But it's not about personal attachment to the man, though he was great.

When we look back at this crazy period in history, whether we're still alive or in purgatory, I would like to think that most of us would like to feel we had the same level of perseverance as the martyrs of old, and as the Church appeared to fade from view and die, we held to the sure knowledge that it cannot and never will.

My opinion...we are living the prophecy of Jeremiah right now, the whole chapter 23 but specifically 23:1-4:

1 Woe to the pastors, that destroy and tear the sheep of my pasture, saith the Lord
2 Therefore thus saith the Lord the God of Israel to the pastors that feed my people: You have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold I will visit upon you for the evil of your doings, saith the Lord. 
3 And I will gather together the remnant of my flock, out of all the lands into which I have cast them out: and I will make them return to their own fields, and they shall increase and be multiplied. 
4 And I will set up pastors over them, and they shall feed them: they shall fear no more, and they shall not be dismayed: and none shall be wanting of their number, saith the Lord.  

Reference verses 1-2: Realize that we are in a crisis and that the highest authorities in the Church have corrupted themselves and are not reliable. So the priests that we are to avoid are all priests who preach error or heresy. Priests are still being certainly validly ordained, your son should go to where his formation is orthodox and ordination is certainly valid.

Reference verse 4: Where we are now - we have Independents, SAJM, SSPX, various Dominican and Benedictine groups, Servants of the Holy Family, etc., etc.. There are also various sede groups and the list of valid priests / Masses / sacraments goes on. I personally do not include and do not recommend FSSP, or any of the "Canonically regular" traditionalist groups and recommend avoiding them altogether.

We are gong on 3 generations without clear resolution, I think that your hope is misplaced here and that it's better to plan for this crisis to persist for another 3 - or more generations, just my opinion.

Do not concern yourself with the validity of the +Thuc line, you have enough worrying to do in regards to the salvation of your soul and the souls in your care. You just concern yourself with avoiding  trad priests who preach error or heresy.

The Church has always taught that regardless of one's opinion, omitting the name of the pope from the canon of the Mass is an act of schism, do not pray for that.
