  • I would not call him a great saint at all, of course. He was about conquest. He just kept going and going until he thought he could not conquer anymore. Also, he took over the Persian, which was sad for Israel because the Persians protected it. Also, the Maccabees had to later on fight off the pagan Hellenistic empire resulting from the partition of Alexander's empire after his death.
