We most certainly can and will advise this young man to respect his grandparents, despite his political differences. We will insist that he honor them because they are his family, and we are Catholics.
PS great post Juan Diego
Then according to your logic I should honor liberals and Trotskyists.
My ideology is quite different. I honor those who agree with my political philosophy and liberalism and Trotskyism is opposed by my religion.
With all these "winks" you have to be joking that you don't understand that you need to respect your Grandparents. The Catholic logic of this is just too reasonable for you to be misunderstanding. Surely you realize you can't expect that every person you have contact with has to agree with your views! You would have to leave the world to have that happen.
We are always called on to treat people in charity, and be patient with them when they are in error, praying that God will enlighten them, and we will have an opportunity to reason with them. The attitude you seem to have is one of
war each time you find people you don't agree with. That is a severe approach, and is only warranted with very few when there is loud, vocal conflict. Even then for you to respond in kind won't win an argument because you both end up in your pride defending "your" views. They will just stay stuck in their errors and sins and you will just have to go to confession. It is a no-win situation.
