Advice for a recent convert

  • Hello, I'm a recent convert to catholicism from Aristotelian paganism and would appreciate some advice from those who follow Bishop Williamson.

Firstly, I must state that I was wholly converted by Bishop Williamson.

I study philosophy in a secular university and was a fervent Aristotelian as far as academia goes. The problem I had with being an Aristotelean was the nihilism that was induced when trying to act upon these natural principles. For instance, every time I would take an Aristotelean stance on iniquity, I found that it was incompatible to the modern mind, hence, Thus Spake Zarathustra was for a bit, my guidance. I always rebuked  the "enlightenment" and have even written essays defending the counter-enlightenment thinkers, but all without knowledge of our Lord, all from a purely human stance. I studied Leo Strauss, for example, a Jєω that looked into and criticized the fleeing from Natural Law in political philosophy and modern-day science. All of this however helpful in my innate refutation of modernity was nevertheless weak without knowing our Lord. To put it this way, being a monarchist, anti-modern, moralist with an Aristotelean and Platonic base always fell through very easily when questioned about it. Usually I would be defeated by historicism, the belief that the past is incompatible and wrong as its "bound" to its epochal conditions.

Nevertheless, this is generally the same even when I began reading the Summa Contra Gentiles and Holy Scripture, I just couldn't see its truth being applicable in the modern mind so to speak. I would begin to have faith in our Lord then would look at the Catholic Church to see horrible atrocities. This unfortunately, because we are material, kept me away from the faith for a while.

Thanks be to God, I found Bishop Williamson on Youtube and Lo, the truth was never so clearly and precisely articulated. I immediately understood what he spoke of in his lectures in at St. Thomas seminary and his conferences when he rebuked Kant and Descartes were the most learned and illuminating lectures I could have ever heard. I immediately began reading Venerable Pope Pius IX's, Pope Leo XIII and Pope St. Pius X's encyclical docuмents. It all began to make much sense. His excellency, Bishop Williamson went over everything that allowed me to see through the devils work, how he obfuscates things in the material form to make you either conform to it entirely, or if you are obstinate and somewhat clever, fall to nihilism. I must say, reading the Protocols of the Learned Elders and the Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser's prophecies regarding the seven ages of the church really removed the pony blinders of needing material representations.

To get to why I am posting on Cathinfo, it is because I have found no other group of people holding the truth so clear and I am a bit troubled about what to do. My wife and I take all of the Bishops advice of praying the rosary daily and reading the Catechism of The Council of Trent, but she needs to be baptized and I confirmed, I was unfortunately baptized by my mother arbitrarily because of "culture".

The issue is that we have begun attending a traditional, Latin rite parish in the Diocese that is part of the Knights of Columbus. They are weirdly enough very much exclusively a Latin rite parish, they have no new rite parishioners that aren't from the Vietnamese group. But, as you would expect though, they are truly bing Crosby catholics. Wealthy and American as can be. The women that attend are even very liberated and immodest. They hate Pope Francis with a passion but agree with Vatican II and every pope produced from then up until now. Additionally, they all love Trump and the Disneyland regime entirely, they practically see nothing wrong with American freedom of religion and the technocratic life. All is fine and well as long as they get their corner of the cake. After reading St. John Vianney's sermon on luke warm souls I would say these parishioners are not even there. Much like the rest of the world many come for material, for consumption, for vanity and "culture", for atmosphere and aesthetic, its something I just don't know how to concede to. I must stress that its not out of my own pride, but many times is our Lord made a mockery out of, not inherently but by their utter weakness, they are utterly American before anything else. I cannot see how they could be called to martyrdom or to defend our Lord.

I understand many of you could very well scuffle with me about certain points but I feel we are generally in agreement as I'm fully in accordance with all of what his excellency Bishop Williamson says and does.

The iniquity is so great that our Lord might bring about the three days of darkness at any time now, especially with Trump destroying the Iranian general for Israel to fully consume Palestine.

Nevertheless, I do not know if I should stay quiet and suck up the falsity and lukewarmness of this parish to receive the Sacraments, especially baptism for my wife, or try at some resistance chapel or possibly a decent SSPX? If that even exists.

I appreciate your time, patience and any advice you give me.

    Thank you kindly friends,

  • Are you anywhere close to an SSPX or resistance chapel?
Glad you found the right path !

  • I live currently in Tampa, the closest SSPX chapel is in Orlando. Not too far off, would you say its worth going, even in its current state?

    Thank you.

  • For many people, the sspx is their best option (currently), even as the sspx continues to devolve into modernism.  But this deterioration is going on at different speeds, depending on the chapel.  I would go to the sspx instead of your current diocese.  Just keep praying your rosary and keep a watch over the slow decline of the sspx.  Our Lady will let you know when the time is right to leave the sspx.  Until then, it’s your best option (based on what you’ve told us).

  • Thank you for sharing your background. It reminds me a bit about how I came back to the Church. Like yourself, I was drawn to the philosophical aspect of the Faith. I agree with PV that you should go to the local SSPX chapel, since the situation there will most likely be better than your current parish.

It seems like you are describing symptoms of the Americanist heresy. I would suggest looking up Charles Coulombe, a Catholic historian and author who has been outspoken on this subject, if you want to know more about the essence and history of Americanism.
