To me a hypocrite is a whited sepulcher, a Pharisee, a person that does not live what they preach. So how can we know how a person lives that we cannot see? How can we call them a hypocrite if we do not see how they live, if they practice what they preach?  There is no way here in a forum. The only way would be that that person contradicts himself in his writings on the forum, like say a man says women should wear dresses that cover their legs, but in another place he says it is Ok for men to wear Speedos.

I think the people who call others hypocrites here on CI are just protesting against about a more perfect, virtuous practice being proposed to them that they think is not necessary (or too difficult, or impossible) and that the person suggesting it does not practice themselves.

Perhaps they should just ask if the person proposing it actually practices it? THAT would answer both questions, that it can be done, and that the one espousing it actually has done it.

You mean "she who has waaay too much time on her hands"?
Or Energizer Bunny?
It is not just her that said it, someone else agreed with her and posted the picture saying so.

There's more to it, as per my previous post.  Someone who does not live according to his principles ... that's known as a sinner.  We're all sinners.  But there's nothing wrong with saying "adultery is wrong," even if you've committed that sin.  So, what, are you supposed to say "adultery is not wrong" just because you did it?

Hypocrisy has an added dimension, where the sinner exonerates himself while denouncing others, considers himself exempt from the standards he uses to judges others by.

Like acting and boasting like a feminist but then reeling with anger at being labeled a feminist?

That would be more denial.  Hypocrisy would be acting like a feminist but then denouncing others as feminists.

Even then, I've known women who clearly carry themselves as feminists but then adamantly deny it when it's pointed out.  I think they have a different perception of feminism.  There are some behavior patterns that are more subtly feminist.  So, for example, a woman might in principle not object to wearing a chapel veil (as a symbol of subjection) but then talk down to her husband and refuse to humbly submit to his authority.  There's a gray area there between simple self-exertion and being a feminist in principle.  They might agree with things like "woman should stay at home and not work" but then think it's OK to disrespect their husbands and refuse to submit to their authority.
