Even in left coast states (Cali, OR and WA particularly) have good SD laws, just bad carry or control or a combination thereof. So if you are on a property defending something and the property owner wants you there then in many situations you are golden. If you are doing this for a "diocese" though you are gonna get owned. Make sure your priest knows you and wants you there,t hat is the key thing. If they didn't know you are there then armed trespass etc and they just tack charges from there. To anyone reading this: bone up on "imminent threat" conditions among other things, also if you have SDR most of these goons use unencrypted radio (privacy tone usually lmao) so start logging AS MUCH UHF/VHF as possible if you live in the city.

There's the rub, what your district attorney defines as "self-defense." In jurisdictions like California the mere act of going to defend your church will be characterized as "looking for trouble" and your self-defense claim goes down the drain.

Most other policies will reimburse you, so you have to pony up all your costs before they reimburse you. In AZ your expenses on your first few minutes post-incident will be $30k if you want a worthwhile lawyer. YMMV.

If you have an incident, call the USCCA and 911, let them know you had to defend yourself and then keep your mouth shut and let your lawyer do your talking.

I am not an attorney, but have spent decades with RKBA attorneys who have held forth on the particulars of self-defense law. There are some interesting ramifications.

If I remember correctly, the law views attempted arson of an occupied building as an exigent circuмstance, so much so that you don't have to wait for the Molotov cocktail to be thrown.
I mention this particularity because a likely Jane's Revenge scenario is firebombing of our churches.

So maybe speaking to an attorney in your state would be the prudent thing to do before "placing armed guards".
