There's the rub, what your district attorney defines as "self-defense." In jurisdictions like California the mere act of going to defend your church will be characterized as "looking for trouble" and your self-defense claim goes down the drain.

More important than the ammunition I buy is the USCCA policy I buy every year:  https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/ Of the dozen concealed carry policies I investigated, USCCA was head and shoulders above the others.  USCCA pays your expenses up front. Most other policies will reimburse you, so you have to pony up all your costs before they reimburse you. In AZ your expenses on your first few minutes post-incident will be $30k if you want a worthwhile lawyer. YMMV.

If you have an incident, call the USCCA and 911, let them know you had to defend yourself and then keep your mouth shut and let your lawyer do your talking.

How much does that policy cost?  And is it in addition to the annual dues?  (Their website says that dues start at $29/pa.)

I took their most expensive plan for about $500/year.

Shake hands with a poor man, I can't afford that.  As a practical matter, I seldom carry, I just have the permit in case I need it.  

I keep my Ruger LC9S with a trigger lock (one digit away from being unlocked) in the center well box of my car, a range bag with a locked Ruger SR22 and about 200 rounds in the trunk (for those times I might want to stop by the range), a locked S&W MP 9mm on my coffee table in the living room, and a locked Glock 19 by my bedside.  All of the 9mm are loaded with hollow points.  I did keep the S&W in the bedroom, but I reasoned, by the time I would hear trouble and get to the bedroom, that is seconds lost, so I moved the S&W to the living room and put the Glock on the bedside table.  We have had dodgy guys (of predictable demographic) wandering through the neighborhood, and one of the homes was broken into recently, first time in 31 years on our street.  There was a raccoon in the neighbor's yard that was acting just a little too docile (rabid animals do that), and if need be, I could have dealt with the matter.

With this, two security cameras, a glass breakage detector, and having the house locked up like Fort Knox, I sleep peacefully at night (or during the day, sometimes this old guy needs an afternoon nap).

Now that it's almost midnight EST, it seems like this "Night of Rage" is probably a bust. Good. They were all peaceful protests.

IMO, it would've only enabled someone with a few screws loose to target a peaceful protest somewhere and become a news story in itself.

The one thing on which I was able to agree with Biden today during his "apostasy speech", was the call for all protests to be peaceful and not violent.

He just told the whole country that he approved of contraception (no surprises there, that'd put him with the 92 percent of American Catholics who do not accept Humanae vitae), abortion in case of rape, and abortion where incest was a factor.  

Just for the heck of it, could any bishop other than the ones in Wilmington or DC excommunicate him?  For apostasy or heresy?

Case in point - the LA riots when Commiefornia wasn't as commie as it is now. The Korean shop owners posted on top of their roof and repelled riotous negroids with their semi-auto pistols, firing off rounds in succession on live TV. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think charges were ever brought against them.

In some states you can shoot your weapon on your property, but you are responsible for your bullets.
I don't know if store owners after the LA  Rodney king trial riots were ever charged.
