    Statement
    Quote
Following a meeting in Dungannon tonight, the A.O.H. St Joseph's Pro-Life Division calls on the Catholic hierarchy to uphold Church teaching on refusing Holy Communion to those who openly support or promote abortion, especially elected public representatives.
This comes in the wake of the weekend's announcement by Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams that he supports abortion and the repeal of the Eighth Amendment in the forthcoming referendum in the South.
"As a pro-life campaigner of many years I have had to listen to SF candidates say that they and their party president are opposed to abortion," said the Division's President Catherine Sewell. "Now we have the truth in the form of Adams' admission. If this man should have the gall to receive communion after this he might as well spit on the crucifix while he's at the altar as he is openly defying Catholic teaching," she added.
The St Joseph's Pro-Life Division promised to be at the forefront of the Tyrone Hibernian's fight against the introduction of abortion into any part of Ireland.

  • From the Tyrone AOH

    Quote
    Remember, Remember

Earlier this year the Tyrone Hibernians paid tribute to the memory of Blessed Patrick O'Loughran, a priest from the ancient parish of Donaghmore who was martyred in Dublin on St Bridget's Day,1612.

The English crown forces put Fr O'Loughran to a gruesome public death simply because he had been a priest in the army of the exiled Hugh O'Neill during the Nine-Years'-War.
Fr O'Loughran refused to renounce his Catholic faith or pledge allegiance to the English crown, stating that his only allegiance was to God. He was forced to watch the brutal execution of an elderly Catholic Bishop from County Down before he himself had his entrails torn out before his eyes.
While we have understandably focused on Irish martyrs, the Tyrone A.O.H. also honours the memory of all Catholic martyrs around the world who have died for the Faith.
On this date, while people on the neighbouring island to the east of us engage in an orgy of anti-Catholic bigotry involving celebratory bonfires and the like, we say a prayer for the English Catholic martyrs, many of them friends and supporters of the Irish, who also gave their lives for the one, true Faith.
We also remember the little Irish martyrs of today, the unborn children whose mothers are now paid by the British government to travel to Britain and whose brutal deaths are also now directly financed by the British state. Is this yet another attempt to reduce the native Irish population and pave the way to more easily steal our gold and other resources?
The Hibernian tradition from which Fr O'Loughran sprung is still here and still strong. Unlike others we will not abandon our Catholic Faith or our loyalty to the ancient Irish nation and her people, born and unborn.
    Éire go Brách!

  • Hi John,
Do you support the "26+2 = 1" goal?  That is, a united Ireland?

    Where does '26+2 = 1' come from?

  • The local AOH chapter here in the US (along with all the other chapters across the US) has the motto/goal of "26 + 2 = 1".  In other words, they want a united ireland.  26 counties in Ireland, plus 2 from Northern Ireland = 1 United Ireland.

I was just curious if 1) such an idea is being pushed in Ireland  2) If "real" irish care about this goal  3) how politically charged this issue is.

It is dawning on many people that many pushing for the United Ireland are not the real deal. Today yet another elected representative of the party led by Gerry Adams resigned. A councillor at local government level. Earlier in the week one of their Senators resigned. They are resigning because of 'bullying' and a 'toxic atmosphere' in the party. Some are uneasy about the push for abortion.
Protestants will never back the United Ireland because of the Shinners (Sinn Fein) support for abortion and 'marriage equality'. Catholics are starting to wise up. Many of the groups opposing them are no better in the attack on the faith.
I would support the United Ireland but perhaps a federal structure where protestant unionists would self govern. We would have a parliament in each province and organise society according to Catholic order.

I have only now seen your response to my query PV.
Can you explain why they only want 2 counties from Northern Ireland?

  • The AOH stands for 'Ancient Order of Hibernians' and refers to people of Irish decent.

No, I have no idea.  I tried to do some research and I figured that maybe 100 years ago the 6 northern counties were actually 2, or something similar, but I'm not familiar enough with the history to know.

  • I was incorrect.  The goal is "26 + 6 = 1".  They reference 6 counties, not just 2.  Makes sense now.

  • Yes - get hold of the song "Four Green Fields" - that tells what was wanted at the time of the Easter uprising.  Then Michael Collins, sent to negotiate with the British reps, came back with a treaty allowing England (Britain) to keep possession of the north.  He thought it was the best he could do.  According to de Valera, he had been told to not sign anything, but return and report what was offered.  However, Collins signed.  Hence a "Catholic" majority south, and British/Protestant majority north.
