For the first time since Fidel Castro gained power in 1959, Cuba’s Communist regime has permitted the construction of a Catholic church, the Associated Press reported.
Raúl Castro, Fidel’s brother, succeeded him as president in 2008.
The church, which will seat 200, will be built in Sandino, a town of 40,000 in western Cuba.
