    • If you guessed that California or New York would be on the list of states permitting abortion with no restrictions and no questions asked, you would be wrong.

    According to a recent publication from 40 Days for Life, the Hall of Shame states are:

    Alaska
    Colorado
    New Mexico
    New Jersey
    Oregon
    Vermont

    Putting this out there on the Feast of the Annunciation, begging Our Lady's intercession for our poor country.

    • Alasaka surprises me as I thought it was supposed to be a relatively conservative state, often voting "Red".

    This is why, as I mentioned, Dobbs v. Jackson, was actually a disaster for Pro Life.  SCOTUS ruled that states have the right to legalize abortion as much as they want, and these cannot be restricted by federal law.  This is the nasty corollary to that disasterous decision.  Ruling should have declared that by all known scientific standards, a fertilized embryo is a human life, not part of the mother's body, but having unique DNA, and is protected by the unalienable Right to Life.  This decision was effectively declaring that states have the right to legalize murder.  Euthanasia to follow on this ruling.

    In Ohio, prior to Dobbs, the state tried several times to fully outlaw abortion.  Since Dobbs, we haven't heard a peep out of the state legislature when the path has been cleared for them to completely ban abortion.

    And you can be very sure that of these 6,000 fewer abortions (with 79,600 still taking place), the vast majority of them were just more careful to have a good stock of morning-after pills (which are undocuмented abortion) or more careful to use contraception.  This does not translate into 6,000 more children being born by any stretch.

    Vermont is a weird state, basically all rural (Burlington is just a large town, not a city), conservative in some ways (gun rights are about as good there as you get anywhere), but capable of very liberal legislation.  It is the West Virginia of New England without the crushing poverty and the religious fundamentalism.

    Before Roe went down, the insincere legislatures knew that even if a pro-life law was passed and signed by the Governor, it would be "successfully" blocked in the courts by a pro-abort challenge. Now that they could actually make abortion illegal in the state, they really don't want to go there and be held accountable for it. Pennsylvania works the same way.

    They primarily live in one county.  However, the other counties are still predominantly blue. 

    If I'm remembering correctly, in recent elections most counties were consistently 1/3 to 2/3 or 1/4 to 3/4 voting results in favor of blue. I think it was only the far northeast kingdom/east that ended up red.  

    I think blue has bled into even the "rural" areas or areas that have quite a bit of rural.  It's been a long time now since this state has been red.

    Voting here is beyond frustrating.

    • If we had a contest "Whose Governor is the Most Evil" I'd have to spot everyone 10 points to make it fair.

    New Jersey's Gov. Phil Murphy calls himself a devout Catholic. Article is from January of last year.

    That weird rumbling sound in the atmosphere here is his Irish ancestors rolling in their graves.

    His conversion is one of my daily rosary intentions.
