  • Nearly 5,000 Catholics received the sacrament of Reconciliation in one day, in a special initiative by Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera, the Catholic News Agency reports.

To prepare for Advent, 30 priests took 12-hour shifts hearing confessions in the Mexico City cathedral on November 29, the eve of the 1st Sunday of Advent. Catholics stood in line for hours to confess their sins.

The cathedral also offered an Advent meditation; the preacher entitled his talk “Coming Home.”

  • That must have been some talk!!!!  5,000 people feeling the need to confess and 30 priests taking 12-hours shifts gives one hope.  This is like something I would have read in a Catholic paper as a child!

  • 13 "Reconciliations" per hour is doable.

Why didn't the novus ordo just save a whole lot of time and effort and do a "Reconciliation Mass"?  They could have staged six big services throughout the day.  That way it only required six hours of work for the presiders instead of twelve hours each.

Poche, you gotta set these novus ordites straight on proper time management.

  • This is the one good thing about the Novus Ordo: Whenever I went to Spanish NO Masses, the line for Communion was fairly small compared to English ones. They knew if they were unworthy to receive and stayed in the pews.

This mass reconciliation would never happen in the United States. Just look at the Communion lines at an English NO. Everyone goes up, and I mean everyone.
Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary...

Who am I to tell the archbishop of Mexico City what to do? He seems to be on a roll.
