  • I want to share a true story that to me, is a miracle.

My late mother was raised a Roman Catholic, but left the Church in the 1940s in order to marry my father, who was an unbaptized Jєω (he eventually did accept the True Faith, however, and I had the great honor to baptize him on his deathbed when he died in 1999.)

All my life, my mother told me many things from her childhood as a Catholic, but one that she insisted upon was that it always rains on Good Friday, between the hours of 12 noon and 3 PM, because that is when Christ hung on the Cross. No one could convince her it was "just a legend", and she clung fervently to that. And oddly, every Good Friday (where we live anyway), it did rain during those hours!

My husband, who is from a protestant background originally, thought my mother's belief was "silly superstition". From the day I married him in 1983, he made it his personal mission to prove my mother wrong. He would observe every Good Friday, and sure enough, my mom would look at him and wink, because it always did rain!

In 2008 my mom lay dying in our home, in hospice care. It was Palm Sunday, and she wanted to reconcile herself to the Faith, so I called a priest and he gave her Extreme Unction. She passed away two days later, on St Patrick's Day.

With all the grief and funeral responsibilities, I had forgotten that Good Friday was coming, but evidently my husband did not.

He came home from work on Good Friday, looking like a ghost. I asked him what was wrong, and he said, "Its Good Friday....and it did not rain....for the first time since I have known your mother....and its been 25 years!"

He firmly believes that God made it rain because of my mother's strong faith....and the first Good Friday that it did not rain, was the first Good Friday after she died.
"If I am not in the state of grace, may the Lord put me in it. And if I am in the state of grace, may the Lord keep me in it".--St Jehanne D'Arc, during her trial.

  • What a beautiful story.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir
