  • Did you know that the Phillipines is the only country, outside of the Vatican, in the world today that doesn't allow divorce. If the spouses can't get along they must get a civil annulment.

  • Divorce may be illegal on the books but in the Philippines many men of means will openly have a second wife living in a second house with a full second family  while facing exactly no public opprobrium and anyone familiar with the Philippines knows of what I speak.

  • So basically we've gone from divorce is wrong and must be kept illegal everywhere and socially stigmatized, to it being all about the care and comfort of the divorcees and no social chastisement whatsoever for the evil deed.

    To say the least.

Must be mad.  Why would anyone in their right mind want a second wife and family?

You'd spend all day fixing stuff.

Many people live in mortal sin. We should work and pray for their conbversion.

There is chastisement for the evil deed. Unfortunately in this life it is the innocent spouse and the children who pay.

  • A little off topic but,

In Saudi Arabia and some other muslim nations all you have to do for a Man to divorce his wife is to say, 'I divorce you' 3 times, at different periods of time.

Yes, The only countries where divorce is still illegal is the Philippines and Vatican City.  Although we all know that the Vatican City Novus Ordo's annulments are invalid and they are false because they are against the teachings of the church in what a true annulment is allowed to be.  Ireland got divorce in 1998 I believe, Italy and Belgium held out until the 70's I believe.

Although something of interesting note, in Arizona, Arkansas and Louisiana there is something called a covenant marriage, which is much harder to get a divorce from it.

My wife is from the PI, and you're absolutely correct. Many married men also work on ships and visit their mistresses when they dock in a city.
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

Many people live in mortal sin.that doesn't mean that we should condone it.

You know, poche, sometimes I think you just type ANYTHING to stay "relevant." Where did I ever say that I condone mortal sin? Just stick to the "what's your dinner" thread, okay?
