    Luther was formally excommunicated for heresy not apostasy. Many Catholic books were written about heretics and apostates included Saint Alphonsus’ History of Heresies. These books were not only written with the intention of exposing their errors to Catholics, but also to help those who unfortunately embraced their errors.
