  • I'm looking for a complete and legible copy of the book Spiritual Combat by Lorenzo Scupoli. Specifically the 1884 edition published by Suttaby and Co.
All of the electronic and print-on-demand versions that I can find are quite poor; missing pages, text on some pages unreadable.
It's a beautiful translation that I think should be put back into print.

If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?

  • Mother of Our Saviour Inc. has it for sale, not necessarily the 1884 edition:

Otherwise, I could try to transcribe a version of it for you myself. It'll take me a couple months. It's a little hobby I have during downtime at work (which I have a lot of).
"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

  • Thanks DL! MOS's is the 1945 edition; it's good, I just prefer the 1884. If I can find a complete copy I might take you up on the offer to transcribe it.
