Huge Mother of Pearl crucifix for sale

Offered for sale is an antique hand-etched Mother of Pearl crucifix. It measures nearly 2 inches long. It needs cleaning, as you can see. The natural imperfections of the shell are on the back: a slight dip in one area. More pics available on request. Asking $200 with free shipping and insurance.

For mother of pearl, 2 inches is pretty big. I'd be willing to consider offers.

Interesting. It depends on the type of animal it comes from apparently. One particular shell ranges in size from 50 nd 150 mm.

You must understand that this material can be quite expensive, especially when used a certain way. Swords decorated with conch/Mother of Pearl carvings are more expensive than otherwise. It also depends of the amount of work that went into it. I have seen artists make intricate decorations with it, and it is very time consuming and take much care and skill.
Also, if you are Hispanic/Mexican, you are probably a lot more partial to this as jewelry. 😅
