I guess that's not impossible, that the original apparitions may have been genuine ... though I doubt Our Lady would allow a real apparition to be taken over by the likes of Clemente.

I would be interested to hear his story, how he decided that Clemente was a fraud but regarded the original apparitions as genuine.

 This is a question that those who have passed thru el Palmar de Troya will have asked themselves. I can only answer for myself.
 Herod wanted Our Lord to do tricks for Him! Heaven does not do tricks for us. Rather Heaven has its purpose; thus if Our Lady did appear then there was a purpose!
 These Apparitions came on the heels of the Second Vatican Council and all the confusion it generated. Many souls ceased to be Catholic by embracing new beliefs. So should we be surprised that Our Lady should appear somewhere? I answer “no”!
 The Seers of Palmar were generally ok but the principle seer, Clemente, was not. He was never on track; he was a charlatan from the beginning. But when I say this I am not saying that he never had any visions. He probably did have some true ones but most that he had were false to aid his own ends.
 What then was Heaven’s purpose? I can only answer the coming of Archbishop Ngo Dinh Thuc and the true and valid Orders that he bequeathed.
