It was more of a rhetorical question. But you obviously didn't pick up on that.

Can a man enter the Kingdom of God who has not been born again of water and the Holy Ghost? Yes or no?

And this is what St. John says about the supposed innocent pagan who somehow lives a sin-free life, “But to resume, tell me someone who, even while remaining with the pagans, is rid of all passions and free from all evil. Indeed, you cannot.” P. 275, Homily 28, John 3: 17-21

Right.  St John Chrysosdom is actually condemning Protestantism centuries before it exists.  Because Protestants believe that human nature is naturally good, and can stay that way, without Gods grace.  But that idea the church condemns.  No man can be good without grace.  Ergo, the idea of a good pagan is also condemned.
