I challenge anyone who says "But the unanimous consent of the Fathers on Baptism is..." to read volume 33 of the Fathers of the Church by Catholic Univ. of America. St. John Chrysostom hits harder than any of the Fathers in his commentary on Our Lord's words to Nicodemus:
"Indeed, the risk is not for a trifling stake, for, if it should happen - and may it not! that, death coming upon us unexpectedly, we depart from here uninitiated, even if we have earthly blessings without number, nothing else will welcome us than hell, and the poisonous serpent, and unquenchable fire, and indissoluble bonds. But, may it not be the fate of anyone listening to these words to be tried by that punishment." p. 249
*footnote says, "Here St. John was speaking against those who were deliberately putting off their reception of baptism until their death..."
There are other quotes specifically mentioning the denial of water for eternal life. There is also a quote where St. John mentions the catechumens. Will post it up later in this thread.
