Do you agree with St. Alphonsus Ligouri (and The Athanasian Creed) that "the explicit belief of these articles (the Mysteries of the Incarnation and the Trinity) is necessary as a means without which no adult can be saved"?

  • Did you answer the question yet?  That is what I mean be intellectual dishonesty.  A person asserts that Saint Alphonsus is a heretic for teaching one can be saved apart from water.  But inwardly realizes that won't wash with many so avoids actually saying it outright when pressed on the issue but changes the topic and focuses on something else.  The more insecure he is about answering the question the bigger and bolder his words will be.  He will also double up on the name calling and personal attacks.  These people need our prayers that their pride be chopped down, and that the embrace the faith and become Catholic.

    bowler, do you realize this is OPINION? I agree with it (because it is the more common and truer opinion) yet I don't give it a status that even St. Alphonsus refused to give it.

    Do you now accept BOD as de fide, the note St. Alphonsus himself gives it?
    It would be comparatively easy for us to be holy if only we could always see the character of our neighbours either in soft shade or with the kindly deceits of moonlight upon them. Of course, we are not to grow blind to evil

    What status is that that he didn't give it? He said the belief in the Trinity and the Incarnation is the truer. What does that make the other belief but false? Or else St. Alphonsus Ligouri did not really believe what he was saying, it was just "an opinion" he was throwing out there? Is the dogmatic Athanasian Creed also just an opinion too?
    Notice his other quotes, is he not clearly enough for you saying that they are all lost who do not explicitely believe in Christ and the Trinity?

    No, it's because you appear to struggle with rudimentary English, yet here you are "instructing" us in dogmas of the Faith.  St. Alphonsus was OBVIOUSLY indicating his preference for one of the two opinions, both of which were/are tolerated by the Church.

    What status is that that he didn't give it? He said the belief in the Trinity and the Incarnation is the truer. What does that make the other belief but false? Or else St. Alphonsus Ligouri did not really believe what he was saying, it was just "an opinion" he was throwing out there? Is the dogmatic Athanasian Creed also just an opinion too?
    Notice his other quotes, is he not clearly enough for you saying that they are all lost who do not explicitely believe in Christ and the Trinity?

    Histronics responded  No, it's because you appear to struggle with rudimentary English, yet here you are "instructing" us in dogmas of the Faith.  St. Alphonsus was OBVIOUSLY indicating his preference for one of the two opinions, both of which were/are tolerated by the Church[/color].


    Oh really, where do you see "the instruction" you "OBVIOUSLY" see in his quote #1, in his other three quotes or in the Athanasian Creed and the Council of Florence?

    And can you please provide me with any Father, Doctor, Saints, or Council that taught that one can be saved without explicit belief in Christ and the Trinity?

  • I'm going to suggest to Matthew that all members on CI have to post their age and gender.

    These SJB and Lover of Truth could be 20 year olds writing from their parents computer from the basement in their underwear. This SJB last night when I looked at the CI Church in Crisis section had the last posting in 9 BOD threads! Post anything on a BOD thread and he posts a sentence within seconds.

    I have him on hide, so I don't read what he posts. But every time I checked before it was a sentence.
