Immaculate Conception and BoD?
« on: July 31, 2022, 03:31:43 AM »

Somebody told me it is a sin to deny BoD because it was taught by the ordinary magisterium, just as it was a sin to err on Assumption or Immaculate Conception even before it was a dogma. She is a follower of the Sanborn group.

If you disagree what would be your reasoning?

BoD is not taught by the ordinary magisterium, it is taught in catechisms and some few of the church fathers.

She is likely quoting this docuмent:

I don't think it's possible to address the conclusion or even discuss it without addressing Cekadaism . It doesn't matter what the conclusion is when addressing a flawed methodology. Interestingly this comes up like a day or so after there is discussion of Cekadaism. Pages 6 and 7 in this docuмent are what we should focus on. Whatever your position on BoD is I don't think this is a safe way to draw conclusions.

I’ll write more later as I’m heading to Mass.  This illustrates quite well the harmful effects of the dogmatic SV exaggeration of infallibility when a person ends up believing that a theological speculation or a pope opining and speculating about NFP in front of a group of midwives is on the same level of belief as a solemn dogmatic pronouncement like the Immaculate Conception.

It is taught by the ordinary magesterium through their catechism classes, both for the young and the converts.
