I think an apology to Jehanne might be in order.

    I admit that I am a sinner.

As am I. Anyway, the point isn't that we're not all sinners but that we shouldn't attribute mortal sin to others when we aren't in possession of either the facts or the guiding principles.
It would be comparatively easy for us to be holy if only we could always see the character of our neighbours either in soft shade or with the kindly deceits of moonlight upon them. Of course, we are not to grow blind to evil

So you used the wrong terms and now you admit this is really just vulgar or coarse language. Good.

I always meant "profanity/swearing" as vulgar/coarse language because like i said, i have seen and heard them being used interchangeably and to mean the same thing. I never meant swearing/cursing/profanity in their exact meanings.

    Quote from: SJB
Why don't you find a moral theologian who addresses this (vulgar language) instead of rashly accusing people of mortal sin? I notice you've possibly downgraded your judgment to a venial sin; I think an apology to Jehanne might be in order.

Yes i accept that after some consideration, i can't say for sure whether it is a mortal or a venial sin and i jumped the gun. It probably isn't mortal but i still think it is very bad.

So sure i apologize for saying it was a clear mortal sin when in reality i'm not even sure if it is mortal.

And i would prefer the words of a Saint and not a moral theologian because like i told you some approved of sodomy within marriage to which, by the way, you did not answer whether you agree with.

  • Why don't you find a moral theologian who addresses this (vulgar language). I don't believe any of them treat this as an issue, unless the language becomes obscene.

As far as your other example goes, I don't know who teaches that and I'm not sure if they did it wouldn't be in Latin, even in an English translation of the original work.

Or you could just follow your own advice if you're not all that certain about the whole issue:

    Quote from: Cathedra
And it is a constant theme in all the spiritual books and revelations i have read that silence is to be observed and that we should even sometimes restrain from good/allowable/profitable speech.

Apparently you didn't get the point.

The point being, that if we will render an account even for idle words, and that we should observe silence and refrain from saying even good things, and that talking for the mere sake of talking, even if you don't say anything bad, is a fault and you will account for that, what do you think you will get for saying something like "bullshit" which is more than a mere idle word and is above all this?

Moral Theology, Fr. Heribert Jone, 1951: ―I.Imperfect Sodomy,i.e., rectal intercourse, is a grave sin when the seminal fluid is wasted: Excluding the sodomitical intention it is neither sodomy nor a grave sin if intercourse is begun in a rectal manner with the intention of consummating it naturally or if some sodomitical action is posited without danger of pollution..." (―3. The Sins of Married People,‖ Section 757.)

He taught this in every edition of his book Moral Theology from 1929 onwards.

You didn't follow your own advice. Anyway, I asked if you knew of a manualist who deals with the issue of vulgar language. You can use someone other than Jone.

Exactly. And it was Mr. "BS is a mortal sin" Cathedra who provided the material.

Wow! This is disgusting. It reminds me of one of my former protestant friends who did all sorts of depraved acts of sodomy and yet always claimed to be a virgin. This Moral Theology book by Fr. Heribert Jone cannot be trusted.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

Btw, he got it from a google search and he didn't quote the entire excerpt (and I'm not suggesting he does either.)

Oh so now i can throw this THEOLOGIAN to the trash? Why? Is what he said not appealing to you? I thought we were to exclusively go by what they say right?

Wait a second, you need a theologian to tell you that vulgarity is sinful, but when i show you a theologian who says rectal intercourse within marriage is OK you disapprove? What's going on here?

Do you want me to scan the page like you do with your other manuals?

You are disgusting and a nasty person. I have no desire to discuss "sins within marriage" nor make any judgment on Jone. I suggested YOU use someone other than Jone because YOU imply you don't trust him. You diverted the discussion to unnatural acts the attempted to discuss it publicly.

It should be easy for you then. Produce the text for the moral theologian of your choice.

Btw, Fr. Cekada uses Jone and references it in his articles.
