Heard a sermon today from a priest performing his clerical duties in the "Southeastern Conference", so to say.

He explained the difference between Actual Grace and Sanctifying Grace.

Applying the priest's definitions for these graces, "Desire" for Baptism would be the Actual Grace.

But the real Sacrament of Water Baptism would be the Sanctifying Grace.

Actual grace is close... but no cigar... as they say in the circus side shows.

Alfred Loisy is generally credited as the "Father of Modernism". There's no Modernism before Leo XIII. No Modernist theologian in the 16th century. In the 16th century, there is e.g. Erasmus of Rotterdam, famous Humanist, and Martin Luther, famous Protestant. Modernists come up at the end of the 19th century.
