  • Following Jon Gosselin's lead? Former Disney star Dylan Sprouse, of Suite Life of Zach & Cody, wrote a special note on his Tumblr page Monday, Sept. 23, to address rumors that he is broke after fans spotted him working at a New York City restaurant.

"So many pictures have gotten out that I'm now working as a host at a restaurant in NY. To clear up the air (which is admittedly pretty rude), I did not take this job because I 'lost all my money,' I am financially secure, and took this job as a way to primarily feed my over bountiful video game addiction," the 21-year-old actor explained. "I also took this as a way to try a new experience, working somewhat below the means I'm used to, as well as a way to socialize and get out of the house."

The child star further defended his decision to take a normal job. "I feel most comfortable when I'm working and doing something, to criticize someone of that is pretty odd," he added. "I will potentially return to acting someday, but in no way do I think any experience is a step down for me, but rather a new step in another direction."

Sprouse starred on the Disney Channel's Suite Life of Zach & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck alongside twin brother Cole Sprouse from 2005 to 2011. Last May, he explained on the YouTube series "Conversations with Nat" that he and his brother said goodbye to the Disney Channel to go to college. "Historically, Disney Channel stars don't survive well outside of the Disney environment . . . we decided that we should go and get a higher education [and also] give time for people to forget about us," he said. "If we left and returned four years later after we've grown, gained an education, looked physically different . . . it would only do good for us."

In October 2012, Sprouse told NYU Local that he was studying video game design with a double major in poetry and studio art at NYU.

  • Poche - What the hell does this have to do with Catholic Art and Literature?

Or any sort of Art and Literature, for that matter?

This person was a famous child star. Rather than burning out as an adult on drugs, alchohol, and disipation he seems to be growing up in a good way. There were rumors that he was in a bad financial way. Who know whether they are true or not. He has an honest job making his way into the world. I think that should be applauded and that others who see this good example may follow it.

  • Famous ?

    Hardly.

Besides are we really supposed to celebrate when some Z-list teenage actor finds the work has dried up and gets a normal job.

Isn't that what humans are SUPPOSED to do?

Well done Buddy, you did not take drink, drugs and waste your early 20s playing video games waiting for your next big break?  Meanwhile congratulations to the entire metro system in New York this morning who are making their way to work.

Honest work can also be a means to holiness when it is offered to God. I remember I saw a young person digging a ditch near where I lived. He apologized, apparently because he felt that it was beneath his dignity. I replied that there is never a need to apologize for doing honest work.

  • Scott Baio is back in New York and chatting with Katie. The former teen heartthrob from “Happy Days,” “Joanie Loves Chachi” and “Charles in Charge” is all grown up now. He now stars in “See Dad Run” as a sitcom TV star who becomes a stay-at-home dad to three children.

In real life, Scott has settled into family life quite nicely with wife Renee and 5-year-old daughter Bailey.

    “How’s it going?” asked Katie.

“It’s fun. Having a child is an amazing experience,” he said. “There’s a lot of times where it’s hard and [you think] is it this much work sometimes?”

Scott started acting at 15 and became such a popular star in the '80s that Katie wondered how he was able to stay away from trouble and survive the pitfalls that many child stars face.

“How did you keep your head straight?” Katie asked.

Well, three things kept Scott in line: his mom, dad, and director Gary Marshall.

“My father told me when I was a little boy ‘If you do drugs, I’ll kill ya' and he wasn’t joking,” Scott said, “I guess he’d rather me die his way than that way.”

Working with Marshall was also a great way to steer clear from any harmful substances.

“The show [‘Happy Days’] was like a picnic every day. It was a lot of fun.”

Another reason to stay clean was more personal than anything else.

“I always thought if I was blessed with a healthy body, why I do something stupid?” said Scott.

  • Poche,

A good looking guy like Scott Baio should be married with 13 kids and raising them as Traditional Catholics instead of his one wife and one daughter...  Did he live his life as a gigolo? Or did he constantly use birth control?  It sure seems like he did.

You ain't doing these guys any fairs by showing them as good role models to emulate.

Clean living. Married instead of shacking up. honest work. I think that is a something that should be emulated.
It would be nice if they had a lot of children. There is a posting on a French language forum from a woman who could only have one child and she wants more but she is unwilling to use IVF. I think we should give him the benefit of a doubt.

    Poche,

You must learn to follow God and His ways and not be such a lover of man's ways.  Just because someone isn't an axe murderer or engaged in child porn (like a lot of novus ordo presiders are) doesn't mean he is to be emulated.

The woman who God blessed with only one child can always adopt.

  • Poche,

I used to think you were a troll. I have since learned that you are a nutjob. Scott Baio is someone you admire? Good grief! Perhaps it's your diet. I have read enough of your food posts to know you could use the help of a dietician.

    Regina Angelorum, ora pro nobis!

Pocheness is the inevitable fate awaiting any site the bulk of whose commenters regard Titian as a pornographer and Goethe and Newton as evil and heretical blasphemers. (These are just three examples among a hundred that could be named.)

I've never heard of these twins, the sad, workaday fate of one of whom poche solemnly informs us in his familiar How the Mighty Are Fallen mode, nor do I know what Scott Baio looks like, but poche is not the only one hereabouts that considers these people apter subjects than the aforementioned guys for the Catholic Art and Literature forum. So get with the program, ggreg.

    Heaven help us.
