Since this is a new forum, I thought it would be a good idea to give potential participants the chance to introduce themselves. So here's where you can tell us a bit about yourself, or at least what area of the arts you're into.

Since I made this post, I'll start the ball rolling for future comers.

You can call me by my handle (Dulcamara, after the Nightshade). Writing is my passion, and it has been, and I hope it ever will be, my whole worldly life. My interest in the field centers upon morality rather than technicality... ethics and the grand battle between the Catholic artists united under Christ, and the worldly media, and more importantly, how we artists must fight that battle by our crafts and talents.

I used to paint oils in the same manner as the renaissance masters (without using real Jєωels in the paints obviously and without mixing my own), but there is such a small market for real art (that one has spent hours upon hours on) that I have since relinquished the brush to the closet. Other artistic endeavors include celtic knotwork motifed for feastday cards and Holy day cards, as well as illustration along medieval lines.

I am an endeavoring neo-Baroque revivalist composer. I am currently working on my first composition, a suite for harpsichord in c minor. I have just completed a rough outline of the main theme for the first movement, which is loosely based on the style of French overture of Lully.

I plan on the movements being:

I. Overture in the French style (Grave~Fugato~Grave)
II. Allemande (Siciliano)
III. Courante (Allegro)
IV. Sarabande (Andante)
V. Minuet (Moderato)
VI. Air with variations (Largo)
VII. Gigue (Prestissimo)

I might change it at some point. It will be long and tedious, but worth every moment.

I've written my own fan fiction, although it was secular. Most of what I have written, though, has language. I wrote it during my highschool years, where swearing wasn't such a "bad" thing......

Hello!

I'm new to the forum and excited to finally have found a place where other trad creative types hang out :) People on the internet call me "iona" for short.

I worked as a graphic designer for several years, but now that I'm a full-time mom, I've been trying to develop my fine art skills that I've let languish over the years. Mostly I make pen and ink drawings, sometimes of the saints. I'll try to post some things when I can, but I'm still figuring out the features here and I have a backlog of artwork I need to update my blog with.

trent - I love celtic knotwork too. I've done a little bit as well, mostly using vector graphics though.

vladimir - I'm a big fan of baroque harpsicord music. I'm glad there's someone out there preserving and furthering that instrument and style.

Actually, that one is rather permanent. It hasn't really been a problem as there were very, very few members here who had links in their sig lines that weren't there for the sole purpose of advertising something. But, here's a solution that's right up your alley... if you make a graphic of your blog address, you can put it in your sig. :smile:

I'm back! Sorry, I've been busy with family visiting and then trying to get good scans and digital photos of my work.

Now I'm trying my hand at uncial calligraphy and learning a bit of Latin so I can try to make real illuminated manuscripts!

Iona, I enjoyed looking at your work, I love religious art and yours is beautiful, I hope you continue to spend time with it. Our priest always says "singing is praying twice", well I also believe that creating religious, Catholic art is also praying twice.

I found this unique web site, where one can create their own fabric designs, and either buy them for their own use or put them in their market place for a 10% commission while the site does all the work of printing the design on fabric, shipping it to the customer.

Looks fun to me!

Although I have not signed up yet, I am already dizzy thinking of designs.

That traditional sculpture site is incredible!

I am a guitarist and singer/songwriter. I often visit churches that have weekday 'services' or 'adoration chapels' (sorry, there are no traditional, faithful Catholic churches or chapels anywhere near me) and I play to God's glory and for Our Lady and the saints. I hope, even in the midst of so much error and calamity in the NO, to bring at least some small expression of devotion to otherwise compromised surroundings. Please pray for me.

St. Cecilia, patroness of musicians, pray for us.

Hi Ionascribe! I see that you made it to the Cloisters. I could have fainted for love of that place. It has the finest painting of St. Micaheal I have ever seen AND a real unicorn horn!

Anne Catherine Emmerich said they are real so I've just decided to believe her.

Yes, it's one of my favorite place in the whole world :) I have a framed print of the Unicorn in Captivity tapestry in my home!

I hope you share yours when you're finished! I like some Asian art styles very much. Are you using brushes and ink or something like that?
