Hi I just wanted to share with everyone a very excellent book I just finished.  It is called "What is True Education" by Fr Edward Leen C.S.Sp written in 1943.  This unfortunetly obscure book would be most important for anyone involved with the education of Catholic souls such as teachers and homeschooling parents.  I am neither of those but I would still recommend it for all Catholics.  I found this book to be one the best Catholic books I have read recently.  Father Leen puts in very clear and easy to understand language the purpose of a true Catholic education which is far more all encompassing than what we usually think of in an education.  A Catholic education is one that takes into account the whole man in the Catholic sense of the term.  That is the right ordering of our lives to our end (which is God) using right reason and an intellect and will that are subject and trained by all that is True, Good, and Beautiful.  Here are a couple of selections from his book:

"A good education is the normal key to a good life and a good life is normal way to a good death.  For it is not God's intention that man should steal heaven by a last supreme effort of efficacious grace, rescuing from the jaws of hell a misshapen wreck of human personality."  (and the author explains very clearly what is meant by a good life, and a true human personality)

"It is not mere weakness, but a huge inconsequence, that is undermining Christendom.  In vast numbers of Christians there is not only a divorce between profession and practice -alas!- but, what is still worse, there is a divorce between profession and profession.  There is contradiction between the philosophy which they implicitly profess in subscribing to the faith and the philosophy which they implicitly profess in the practical guidance of their lives."
