  • I saw a trailer & it looked good.  The book upon which it is based was not inspired by a passionate love of souls, so it ended up treating an important subject in a cavalier manner.  It did offer a glimpse of how a Catholic country differs from our own.

Therefore the movie is probably better, but it costs so much to go... :furtive:

Somewhere there will be bashing, otherwise the movie would not go mainstream, IMO.

"Mark well that in the Catholic Mass, Abraham is our Patriarch and forefather. Anti-Semitism is incompatible with the lofty thought which that fact expresses. It is a movement with which we Christians can have nothing to do. No, no, I say to you it is impossible for a Christian to take part in anti-Semitism. It is inadmissible. Through Christ and in Christ we are the spiritual progeny of Abraham. Spiritually, we [Christians] are all Semites"
    -Pope Pius XI

Belloc, it's important to remember this has to do with biological antisemitism, and a marcionite view of the Old Testament.  It doesn't have to do with what is called "antisemitism" today.  All conspiracy theory and all authentic Catholicism is called antisemitism.

Belloc, it's important to remember this has to do with biological antisemitism, and a marcionite view of the Old Testament.  It doesn't have to do with what is called "antisemitism" today.  All conspiracy theory that mentions the Jєωιѕн power and all authentic Catholicism is called antisemitism and that is the definition that is used today.

Bishop Fellay, if he repeated what Archbishop Lefebvre said, would be considered an antisemite.

    Quote
Since Israel refused the true Messiah, it would give itself another messianism that is temporal and earthbound, dominating the world by money, Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ, Revolution, and social democracy.
We must not, however, forget that those Jєωs who were disciples of the true Messiah founded the true Israel, the spiritual kingdom, which prepares the heavenly kingdom.
The worldwide designs of the Jєωs are being brought about in our time, but they started with the foundation of Masonry and the Revolution which has decapitated the Church and set up worldwide socialist democracy.

As Bishop Williamson said, if truth is called antisemitism, then we must be called antisemites.

the terminology does nto change-that is the thinking of the world. Antisemitism is the same as enunciated by Pius XI and Fr. Fahey,etc......have a problem with it?? take it up with them, for I am damn tired of the  debate, word semantics and any stupidty yet forthcoming from the pot head roscoe (can feeel him lurking). WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM, CHILDREN OF A PROMISE.......try Galatians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try the 2nd and 3rd chapter of Apocalypse-heck, try John's other books-all speel out there are true Jєωs, false Jєωs.....call yourself an israelite, Jєω,whatever......again,moving along.....

Now, back to the thread topic before the  :sign-thread-hijacked:

would agree that there is likely some caricturing, etc in the movie, but am hopeful that the movie is at least true to mark...that recent Nicholas Cage movie prattled on about some secret book of Solomon ( a little nod to the Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ friendly other movies of Cage's). As if we did not have some sort of codified and written Rituals at the time of the movie, mid 1300's.......

then you set up Williamson against Pius XI and those before......and they are not......Williamson,et all was talking about opposing systems and active palyers, those mis-using Free Will!!! Not talking about the Edith Steins,etc,etc.........

  • I have not read the book, but I did read an article by the author about his book and motivation for writing it.

The writer said that he doesn't believe in the devil and is a skeptic.  He was writing from the point of view of an observer.

Now I don't know how the movie will portray Catholicism.  But have you ever wondered why, whenever, some one needs exorcising they call a priest, yet Hollywood bashes Catholics any other time?

I'm curious about the movie and will probably go see it.

I don't see how he denies this. Indeed, I don't understand the whole point of your criticism. What's wrong with displaying the quote in question? I think it's a good reminder that biological antisemitism, indeed biological racism of any kind, has no place in the Catholic Church.

  • You should watch your French, Belloc.

From the looks of the trailer, the movie does look good. I'd say worth checking out...

Loving mother of the Redeemer, gate of heaven, star of the sea, assist your people who have fallen yet strive to rise again. To the wonderment of nature you bore your Creator, Yet remained a virgin after as before. You who received Gabriel's joyful greeti

  • And I'll add that it's got Anthony Hopkins.... So, it's got to be good. Everything he does is well acted.

The thing about the trembling hand in the trailer looks like it might be a little goofy, though. I wonder what knucklehead decided to put that in. lol.

Also, they gave away too much of the plot in the trailer.
