Hilda Van Stockum books are very popular with homeschoolers here. You could give them a try. Bethelembooks.com

Here's another list, but this one might be more suitable for the library given that there are nearly 50 books here.

We do own a good number of these, though. I don't know why she included the Fr. Brown Reader. It's not a picture book and is more suitable for middle school. While it's simplified Chesterton, it's still didn't keep the interest of anyone in this house younger than 10.

I have three granddaughters who are learning to read. The oldest is now seven, but the years are passing by swiftly.

Thus, I am looking for inspirational fiction, similar to that published by C.S. Lewis and his Chronicles of Narnia or his Space Trilogy (for older teenagers).

Can you recommend any good fictional reading that teaches moral values?
I must caution against providing C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I have known two families that had children who were attracted to this book and they all grew up to be meddlers in the occult or paganism -- at least one did so under the appearance of a Novus Ordo Catholic.

Lord of the Rings, if read with an elder person.
Outlaws of Ravenhurst... TOTALLY, GREAT BOOK!!
Chronicles of Narnia, obviously...
Boxcar Children & Bobbsey Twins are children's mystery stories, very family friendly
first one stars 14 year old and 6 year old boys, Henry and Benny, and their siblings 12 and 10 year old Jessie and Violet
2nd one is slightly more complicated
there are Bert and Nan, 8 in one edition and 12 in the other
and Freddie and Flossie, 4 in one edition and 6 in the other
Agatha Christie for teens (older teen side)...
