  • Uniformity with the will of God by St. Alphonsus: are the contents of this book taken from (or identical to) the contents of the chapter on the same topic in this saint's book, Preparation for Death or Considerations on the Eternal Maxims? There is a chapter on uniformity with the will of God in the unedited version; I don't recall if it is present or not in the popular abridgement sold by TAN.

Hell and its Torments by St. Robert Bellarmine: are the contents of this sermon online?

Vera Sapientia; Valley of Lillies by Thomas a Kempis: good books?

The Catholic Controversy by St. Francis de Sales - good book? Is it accessible to a non-Catholic nominal Protestant that is seriously intent on converting to Catholicism but has some misunderstandings about the difference between Protestant and Catholic?

Intro to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales - If one was short on $$$, would the purchase of this book be preferred to the purchase of The Spiritual Combat?

St. Francis de Sales sermons for Lent - are the contents of these sermons online?

(observant people will note that this is largely a shopping wishlist from TAN books! - I ask if the contents are online not to download the PDF instead of buying book, but to preview the contents first)

  • All great books you have there, but I'll just comment on the St. Frances de Sales books.

Intro to Devout is a cornerstone and vital piece of literature for the soul, BUT I think Spiritual Combat is way more oriented to the warrior/survival-prep oriented soul so it could be more enjoyable immediately.  I vote for Spiritual Combat out of those two, for first book.

  • And correction, Spiritual Combat was St. Frances de Sale's most prized book apparently... it was not written by him.

  • If you want a book to hand to a searching non-Catholic nominal Protestant I would choose either

This Is the Faith  by Canon Francis Ripley

    or

The Faith Explained by Leo Trese

  • I read The Faith Explained when I was in High School and really loved it.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir
