  • I'm guessing, based on your profile, that this is of great interest to you. :laugh1:

Tolkein was against the new mass, though. I've heard a story that when he would attend the Novus Ordo Mass, he would shout out the responses in Latin while everyone else was saying them in English.

    Indeed it is.

Yes the story you told is from his grandson who attended mass with him. Tolkien was a trad.

  • A video that showed up in my recommendations recently, from about 7 years ago. I agree with MHFM on the main issues, but, this goes a bit too far as it seems to cherry-pick quotes that sound heretical, but remain obscure without their wider context. Given, it is done by a follower of MHFM rather than one of the Brothers themselves.

"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

  • It's "Pope Pius V", not "IV", and a saint to boot.

Actually, it was Pope Pius IV. The 25th session was the last he presided over.

Yes, I see now, you are absolutely correct.  I had it firmly in my mind that Pope St Pius V convened and presided over the Council of Trent.

Good to know.  Thanks for correcting my error of fact.

    I didn't know myself and had to double-check :laugh1:
