    A fanciful mushroom
    The hat is a wish
    the cap is a dish
    Looking for somebody
    looking for home
    A field of mushrooms
    but I am alone

    Disaster

    Blood in the water
    and soot in the air:
    Looking for time,
    that we might prepare.
    A pinch to a gallon
    sure life isn't fair:
    And life is mutated
    by those without care
    Bernardus Petraeus
    dwells deep in his lair
    Watching the lemmings
    sink deep in their chair
    While blackness, the horror,
    comes out to be there.

  • Are these yours, Matthew?  They are good!  Well, mainly the second one, but the first is cute.  For some reason I picture you writing the mushroom poem before your marriage, since you talked about how you went through a period of searching.

They don't try to do too much and have an expressive naivete that actually hits home.  They also have genuine charm.  They are just... You.  Without pretension.  Unless they aren't you, in which case they are who they were written by...  One of the first rules of art is to be yourself, don't try to be what you're not.  You'd be surprised how few people achieve this.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

  • Yes, I wrote them.

I enjoy writing poetry -- I tried to write something bizarre, three times -- but each time I couldn't "ruin" my poem and had to make a real poem out of it :)

Yes, I understand how poems have a certain flavor or style to them. They come from the author, and have his mark.
