  • Does anyone know where I can find cheap Catholic books for less than $10 other than via MHFM?
I recant many opinions on the crisis in the Church and moral theology that I have espoused on here from at least 2019-2021 don't take my postings from that time as well as 2022 possibly too seriously.

I'd like some physical copies because I think I'd be less distracted reading a physical copy versus using my phone.

So if you're looking for cheap physical books, the one individual mentioned TAN, but it depends on the title and how big a book.  Angelus Press has some title CLOSE to $10, or $12.  But your best bet would be a used book site, like Abe Books.

    https://www.abebooks.com

Here's one search on St. Alphonsus with many of his titles available for between $5 - $10 (used) --
    https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&cm_sp=SearchF-_-home-_-Results&an=st.%20Alphonsus

They'll have a certain description of condition that usually tries to be accurate or the seller will get a bad reputation.  So read up on what "Good" vs. "Fair" condition means there.

    Here's a great book for $5 new --

    Good Heavens, Man!

Both the library section here and my Resources page are stuffed with FREE book downloads and books can be borrowed from most parish libraries.

  • I second Abe Books. ThriftBooks and Second Sale as well. Wouldn't hurt to check ebay either

Also, you may want to avoid older TAN books. My mother and I have both experienced the issue of the binding coming apart, I'm not sure if their newer books have this problem

I avoid ebay since they fund abortion for their employees. Most thrift stores rarely have good Catholic books. However, the whole reason I check thrift stores is searching for diamonds in the rough. Typically not religious material however, too many prot books.

  • If you have specific books in mind, bookfinder.com is the best resource for finding the cheapest prices.

  • Avoid Bookshop.org. They claim that "every purchase supports local bookstores" but their website is pure evil woke NWO. Their logarithm is hilarious, though. Searching for St. Thomas Aquinas brings up suggestions for medieval Yiddish folklore, while searching for St. Alphonsus Liguori brings up suggestions for basic vanilla self-help affirmations and woo-woo new age rubbish.

Alibris.com is very good for range of offerings and low price, and you'll know exactly which local bookstore is the source of whatever you buy.
Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you, all things pass away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. He who has God finds he lacks nothing; God alone suffices. - St. Teresa of Jesus
