  • Somebody told me that the pre-Vatican II Legion Handbook was better than the post-VII one.

I've looked online but haven't encountered any articles about it, although maybe I didn't look hard enough.

    Could anyone:
    1. Enlighten me with regards what the main differences are?
    2. Point me to a Pdf of the original if it exists?

    God bless

  • My recommendation is to buy an old copy of the handbook:

I have read them and believe them to be pretty solid in the orthodox Faith.

Here's one I found on Amazon (through Catholic Info's link)

3 $bucks, is quite a deal, for this antique, considering that the Virgin Mary's intercession is behind this apostolate, when it is executed according to their rule.

Maybe you can start a Praesidium and recruit John Grace to be one of the founding members
    ?

  • I just purchased a 1940 Edition for $10.00. I lost my handbook years ago,
and it was an NO edition.
This edition has two endorsements from Pope Pius XI and Pius XII, in
a very safe time of Catholic Tradition without any questions and any
    thoughts of renewal.

  • Congratulations... there is a lot of wisdom in those pages.

  • About the only one that may have a pdf copy of the
Legion of Mary Manuel would be Hobbledehoy. I have not
seen a post from him here in a long time.
I have searched the internet for a pdf version and unable
    to locate one.
I am sure there are some differences in the pre and the
    post Vatican 2 editions.
However, I have never compared the editions. Perhaps
an another member of this forum can be more
    enlighten to share his knowledge.
I was a member of the Legion of Mary at my Parish
    Church in the 1980's.

  • I've found REAL problems in the new one.

It praises ecuмenism ( with a disgusting shout out to the muslims ), quotes Cd. Bea and Cd. Suenens, JPII and Vatican II all over the place.

Probably whatever original text was left intact is still okay but then, that's like dealing with the old saw about trying to "renew" the V II docuмents themselves "in the light of Tradition."

Stick with the old one and accept NO substitutes.

The Legion has been TOTALLY co-opted, just like the Blue Army was, by the Nervous Ordeal.

  • I have a manual of St. Vincent De Paul.  (old one)  It may be different from the Legion of Mary or the Blue Army. Here is the surprising twist.  I would say that most of us think of St. Vincent De Paul group taking care of the poor/needy.  Well, guess what, that is not what St. Vincent had on his mind!  He and others went door to door making sure that everyone had access to the sacraments.  My Aunt was of the Blue Army and that is exactly what she did.  This manual made no mention of feeding the poor. It was understood, that if there was a need of food, it just might be that the family was in need of supernatural help first. If those needs were taken care of, then God would show is mercy and etc, if you get the idea that I am trying to get across.

The reason why ST. Vincent De Paul is what it is today in the New Order is because it is not catholic owned and operated, it serves the Federal gov't.  I found that out in 1992, and I am sure it was like that for decades before.

Besides, what use are they when there is no sacraments in the New Order and why should there be a mission to convert when New Order is accepting of all sects.

  • Thanks everyone, I'm having difficulty finding an older version that ships to Ireland, but a friend of mine has an old copy and might be able to lend it to me.

    Very interesting analysis!

  • It's useless when a number of modern Legionaries are busy breaking families who need help. So much for weekly Mass, rosaries, statues of Our Lady, etc. etc.

  • There were some Legion of Mary groups that are ok. Then there are some that are operated like an occult.

The group I'm with also has junior of Mary which are homeschoolers.    We are having float in the local 4th of July parade.

May God bless you and keep you

Is it under the Diocese?  I have notice that the diocese will have their people infiltrate or the parish priest won't support it either.  They want to get rid of traditional Catholic groups to form ecuмenical social ministries.

  • Stephanie Block writes books on how groups are formed in the New Order.  You wil be shocked, but we need to know.  Go to www.speroorum.com and read some samples of the "Change Agents" in religious sects, being changed!  Industrial Areas Foundation will come up and you will find the agenda is Federal, with Grants that support Abortion, ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity and More!

Yes, it's under the Diocese. The Maltese Church is Novus Ordo to the core which means complaining is a futile exercise.
