  • Most of the prayers I found from Catholic websites, but I can not remember the sources for all of them. So should I throw it in the trash? I showed it to two friends from Church and they said it was good but pointed out an error I made, which I corrected. Do you think this is alright?

Front Cover (May He Rest In Peace):

    The Angelus:

    Arising From Sleep:

    Morning Offering:

    Act of Love:

    The Memorare:

Evening Prayer to the Holy Spirit:

Evening Prayer to the Son of God:

    Salve Regina:

    Regina Coeli:

    Back Cover (Psalms):

I am not a monk or a priest or a nun or a Bishop, but just a layman. Do you like my pictures? I am a child, so it is not beautiful like The Book of Kells. But I try to be good and put my heart into it. I have found that in my state of life I am not able to live according to my own will. I would like to fast and do penance but I live with my family under the authority of my Father so I have to eat meals with them, talk to them, listen to them, and do chores. And I have to look for work instead of spending all my time in prayer as I would like to do. Pray that I find work. I want to be a "Restaurant Assistant". My father told me I am not allowed to talk to myself when I go out walking. This is a real penance for me as I always am astonished by nature and want to cry out in joy when I witness the glories of His creation. But I have to remain quiet. But my mother told me I am allowed to whistle. I love whistling. Father Z. posted a book about how a priest should live, and it said that a priest was not allowed to whistle in public. What a sacrifice! I am a child.

Since this is my own work I dare not post it in the Sacred section, but I do like praying and writing out prayer cards and drawing religious pictures.

    Any changes you would recommend?
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • Keep the prayer book that you have made and use it yourself. Do not toss it in the trash.

Later on, you might want to type out your favorite prayers, save it on your computer, then print it out.
You can illustrate it, add holy cards, take it to a copy shop and have them laminate it and bind it.
The copy shop can even make colored copies of your illustrations and the holy cards to embellish your prayer book.

That is what I did. In this way, you can make more copies for your family-to-be, and if pages are torn or worn from
continual use, you can easily replace individual pages or replace the prayer book.

Prayer books, holy illustrations, and holy cards that have become damaged and unusable
should be burned or buried, never tossed into the trash.

    Lord have mercy.

  • Maria Regina, what a pretty name. Our Queen Mary. I use this book for my daily prayers as I feel like a child myself. But I try to write prayer cards for grown ups too. I am working on one now for my best friend Julian whom I love. All about the shedding of The Most Precious Blood. I have trodden the wine-press alone. When I first converted I tried to learn Latin and wrote out so many beautiful prayers in Latin and in English. And lately I am taking up the habit again. I have more energy now and feel better, like I am a better Catholic than I was, since my soul was sick and got better again. Of course I never learned how to write or pray or draw or paint. I do it by instinct and inspiration like a little child finger-painting. I am mostly self-taught. Perhaps I should watch Youtube videos about calligraphy or art. You can learn a lot that way.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

Seraphina, do you think my little book is good enough to publish or are you just being nice? Perhaps I am being humble, but in my mind my book is straw and not gold, but I know that I put a little of my faith and love into it, so perhaps that is what you see. I have strange eyes. I see different things at different times. Though the substance remains the same, the accidents change. I can not tell which accidents are true if any of them are. What is this mystery . . . ?
That is high praise from an angel that stands before the face of God. Does anyone know of an editor and publisher of Catholic prayers for children? If anyone would be interested, I would be. I have no connections with Catholic publishers, perhaps I could show our priest. I am not the only one at our chapel who writes down prayers. Louis and Jon do as well and they are far more learned and wise than I am and I do not think they are published. But I can share some of them on good websites like Cathinfo.

I believe I am called to be married, upon contemplating my life and praying. Though I am drawn to the life of the desert fathers. I love women so much, and when I first went to confession after my life of sin the priest told me that I should get married. Perhaps that was a sign?
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • Matto,

Have you seen The Tree of Life? I think you should. I think it would resonate with you. I think you would like it.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • Matto, I cannot take a close look now, but if you are going to use handwriting, do not use all caps as it makes for difficult reading. Use caps only for start of sentence, and proper nouns / names.

That's all I can say because I am travelling.

  • Matto,

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will try to follow it. I saved it on my computer for future reference.

I will look for it. Thanks. Don't you love Kenneth Branagh's Henry V? If "The Tree of Life" is a fairy tale, I will love it. I love fairy tales. Or is it just about Genesis?
But which "Tree of Life"? There are many of that title. Did you mean this one:
    ?

This was the one that jumped out at me?

My favorite Shakespeare play is King Lear. I prefer tragedies to comedies, but I love Falstaff.
    R.I.P.

Yes, I'm quite fond of Branagh's Henry V.

    .
King Lear is my favorite Shakespeare work, too.  I also prefer his tragedies, although I love Merchant of Venice and Taming of the Shrew.
    .
This is the Tree of Life I was referring to: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005MP28B2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005MP28B2&linkCode=as2&tag=httpwwwchanco-20 />.
You might say it has fairy tale elements, but it is very difficult to describe.  I recommend it to you in particular because you have such a pensive love for natural beauty and religion.  It is a movie that will give you a lot to think about, and a lot to love.  That's what I think anyways.  It's hard for me to discuss the film in less than an essay, it's the sort of thing you carry with you (if you like it, that is).  I shared some of my thoughts about it here: http://www.thetradforum.com//index.php?topic=354.msg6725#msg6725

Thanks, Mith. My mom said I can watch it. So I may rent it on amazon. It won the Palme D'Or, so that means something.

  • Matto, now I have had a chance to look at your work in the OP.

I think Maria Regina has given you good advice.

I see that you have made a collection of well known and well used Prayers,. And I thought there might have been one or two you yourself composed. AM I right?

It might interest you that my mother used to write prayers every day, straight from her heart and in her own words, then she would pop them behind a picture of Our Blessed Mother or behind the Sacred Heart, or under the Statue of St Therese, the Little Flower, or whatever took her fancy, and she had notebooks and exercise books that she would write in. SHe had a real love affair with Almighty God and all His  relatives and friends.

I really think it would be good to watch those youtubes on calligraphy and presentation.

I think you would do well to use your own words coming from your own heart, because a few of the words in the prayers you presented might be a little difficult for children to understand.

    Anyway, that's my penny's worth.

  • If you are writing catechetical material then you will have to submit that to the local ordinary for an imprimatur.
