I suppose many of you have seen the 1973 movie Catholics with Martin Sheen, well, I tried to capture the best scenes of that movie and break them up with a traditional Irish song called the Mass Rock in the Glen.

The song is about the penal laws in Ireland during Cromwell's invasion where Catholic worship was suppressed and mass was said in secret in the hills at "mass rocks"

Anyhow there are a few Irish forums where I'll post it. I was hoping to maybe stir some ancestral memories in those Irish folks who wish to watch it.

Great stuff.

I just bought the movie for $4. Free postage. I couldn't find it as Catholics on ebay, but found three in Australia as Conflict.

Any other tips?

Funny, I also bought the DVD, it was only 1.99 plus shipping. It came in a nice case, too. I thought it would be a great gift for someone who was attending the NO who didn't know much about tradition.

Actually that movie would be a great one to burn copies of and hand out to NO-ites.

Also, thanks for reminding me, I need a new copy of Conflict, mine has
several scenes with blue and red blobs atop the actors. It doesn't make
for good viewing.

Thank you Viva for bringing this up. I just discovered tradition less than 6 months ago and I agree with earlier comments that this would be something good to give out to people at NO parishes. The priests there may not appreciate it but perhaps some young priests can also discover tradition as well.

I wonder what would have happened if I had found this sooner. I wish someone had showed me and taught me about Traditional Catholicism in my late teens and early 20s. I'm sure things would have been much different if I had learned how to rely on the Lord. Who knows, maybe I would have become a priest like my mom wanted. I just could not see myself as a priest, I did not know anything else besides Novus Ordo priests.

By the way, many Novus Ordo parishioners do not know what you mean when you say "Novus Ordo". I know because I was one of them and now I feel like an outsider looking in.

I threw away the Martin Sheen movie after watching it and obviously, I do not recommend it to anyone. The storyline is that liberal priest in street clothes Martin Sheen is sent to basically close down what is supposed to be a trad monastery. In the end it turns out the "trad" prior had lost the faith way before Martin Sheen showed up and was just going along with the motions of being a trad. I do not see what that movie is good for except to lose the faith.

As far as your video, I only watched a few seconds and if you used the Sheen movie just to get scenes of the monks being monks, then that's OK, but I would not recommend that anyone go out and buy the Sheen movie, for it is only fit for burning.

If the salvation of one soul was so important that God became man to die on the cross for that one person, if your video saves just one person in Ireland, you will receive great rewards in Heaven. So do not ever think you are wasting your time when you see the world crumbling around you.

I watched the movie last night and yes I would make a distinction between sharing the video (song with movie scenes) versus sharing the actual movie. I just did not know what to make of the Abbot in the movie and that ended up being a distraction.

It seems to me Martin Sheen does a good job of portraying the flaming liberal (Fr. Kinsella) that he depicts so well -- because he doesn't have to ACT to do that. He was playing himself.

I agree with claudel that this is not an appropriate movie for children.

In the event that they would not find it so boring they wouldn't be interested in its substance, they could only absorb controversy and confusion as this depicts a suppression of the first movements of the Catholic counter-revolution.

Buddhists, Hindus and protestants are much more important to these liberals pretending to spar with each other.

As Sean says, minute 36 is pretty clear: Sheen's character (Fr. Kinsella) says that Rome has allowed that it's no longer necessary for Catholics to believe in the Real Presence, except "symbolically."

I recall hearing longstanding good Catholics say that "You see, outside the Church there IS salvation!" That was squarely based on Vat.II's LG8: "The Church of Christ... subsists in the Catholic Church." That is the foundation of this rotten movie, too, this HORROR film.

The scenery is beautiful and the Abbey is marvelous. But the two priests sat down to eat in the beginning (12:00) without having any blessing. They only said grace before meals when it was a show of piety in front of their community in the refectory, later (28:30). Clue: notice how the Abbot does not lead the prayer. This was odd when I first saw it, that neither the Abbot or Fr. Kinsella utter a word of prayer before meals, nor after meals.

This is actually the whole point of the movie.

At 42:46 Fr. Kinsella makes the sign of the Cross for the first time, reluctantly. Note well that nowhere in this film is Fr. Kinsella ever shown doing ANYTHING that a priest does, like pray, hear confessions, offer mass, bless anything. He's just a monkey, plain and simple. A Dufus. A creep.

At 50:14 Fr. Kinsella practices disobedience by doing Yoga 'meditation' in his room, after Father Abbot clearly ordered that no one hold any kind of vigil in his cell.

I'll tell you though, who ought to watch this lousy movie, and that is the priests of the SSPX.

Because it depicts EXACTLY the kind of thing they'll be facing if +F gets his way. This is how liberalism in the leadership corrupts everything, and the good monks in this movie are the good priests of the Society, with flaming liberals telling them how to abandon their faith, because the leadership has already done so, in the name of "love of God."

At minute 59 the Abbot explains how he lost his faith when he went to the Lourdes shrine in France, and now, he's afraid to pray because he doesn't think there is any Father in heaven, and the hosts on the altar is just bread.

That explains all his punitive actions earlier in the movie, and it would explain a lot of similar actions in the hierarchy and in the Superior Generalship and the Menzingen-denizens.

1:02:40 -- t"The thing about being in charge is to be firm, like the Father General." -Could be a script for the Society, that is, if they were to be honest.
