  • It was brought to my attention by a friend of mine, that in Greek ikonography, the abdomen of Christ subtly resembles the male organ, such as in the blasphemous and perverted images found in the Youtube series recently featured on this forum, "Rape of the Soul". I dismissed this concern, based on the fact that the schools of Greek and Russian ikonography are so ancient and that the resemblance requires a stretch of the imagination. Ikons are meant to elevate one to prayer (which is actually a test used to judge ikons - Orthodox priests or monks often critique ikons made by nuns based on whether or not they inspire one to pray), however, my friend made it known that he was made uncomfortable by the image in my signature. Does anyone else have anything to say on this matter?

They're trying to make people see phantoms, in this case, buying into Freudian theory, which is bunk.

I'm not saying hidden images never happen.  Thinking back to when I read the secular children's magazine "Highlights" as a kid they had a game were you were supposed to find all sorts of hidden images.  It makes me wonder if the people in charge of that magazine aren't aware of embedded images in famous art.

Looking back, "Highlights" strikes me as something that could be run by masons. (well, people obsessed with secular education of children and psychology, anyway)

However, what the Freudians want you to do is to see things everywhere whether they are or not.

They want to damage your thought process, not make you more perceptive.

So, no, don't worry about it.

  • But if you look at many madonna and child images, you will see that the child's male organ is depicted. So is the case with some images of our Lord on the cross.

    That is just artistic realism.
