I am going on a five day St. Ignatius retreat. Among the short list of items to bring with me are a copy of the Imitation of Jesus Christ, and a “gospel book”. The only gospel book I know of is in the New Testament. I get the feeling that this is not what is meant in that list.
I do not know what a gospel book is, really, especially in light of bringing one to this retreat. It was suggested to me by my wife to perhaps bring Cornelius a Lapide’s commentary on the four gospels, but that is a scholarly work, four volumes, and a bit pricey (though I certainly wouldn’t mind acquiring it-seems to be a well made and well thought out collection).
What say you? Is there something more compact and appropriate for this retreat?
