Title: Gospel book for St. Ignatius retreat
Post by: 800 Cruiser on June 04, 2019, 12:18:06 AM
I’m trying to track down a good “gospel book” for this retreat.  I have never heard of such a thing, and it seems that it is not necessarily the entire New Testament that is being asked to accompany me.
I want a physical book. I have no issue purchasing online, but want to be careful as a quick search brings up things like evangelical gospels.
Can someone provide a current link or safe website to peruse?  Thank you very much.

I am not sure what youmean by a good "gospel book" or what "it seems that it is not necessarily the entire New Testament that is being asked to accompany me" means.

Can you explain please, cruiser.

I am going on a five day St. Ignatius retreat. Among the short list of items to bring with me are a copy of the Imitation of Jesus Christ, and a “gospel book”. The only gospel book I know of is in the New Testament. I get the feeling that this is not what is meant in that list.
I do not know what a gospel book is, really, especially in light of bringing one to this retreat. It was suggested to me by my wife to perhaps bring Cornelius a Lapide’s commentary on the four gospels, but that is a scholarly work, four volumes, and a bit pricey (though I certainly wouldn’t mind acquiring it-seems to be a well made and well thought out collection).
What say you? Is there something more compact and appropriate for this retreat?

Imitation of Christ by Thomas Kempis is a good book for the retreat.  Christian Warfare, My daily Bread,

Why don't you contact the retreat centre/director and ask them?

It seems to me a strange way of expressing themselves. Maybe they just mean a copy of the Gospels, for which a New Testament or complete Bible would suffice.

You can buy individual gospels in separate volumes with commentary.
