The Church has never condemned folk music.

Many trads are emotionally scarred by anything that is not classical or chant because of the cultural associations.

But that is mostly because they are too simple to make the necessary distinctions.

There is a time and a place... and if you extend this logic of some trads you will listen to nothing but gregorian chant ever.

It's a confusion of purpose.

Can you explain how that is related to the topic at hand?
There's nothing to explain. You clearly don't get it.

Sign me one who is NOT scared of music that isn’t chant or classical. I have very broad taste
in music. Different music is for different settings. Chant and Catholic hymns are for Church. Folk rock and alternative are decidedly not for Mass or prayer.  We used to sing folk and some of the early V2 (Ray Repp, Medical Missionary Sister) music at children’s summer camp, around the campfire at night. Those songs were not for Mass, either. The musical world is so much wider than rock, and now, for rap. I agree that most people including traditional Catholics need to expand their musical horizons. All kinds of music is available online. Instead of spending endless hours scrolling through influencers on TikTok or talking heads on X blogs, why not look for different music?
Unless a person is truly amusical, you’re bound to find something you like.

Yes the lyrics and excessive emphasis on beat can do that. But instruments no. The good can be taken from some modern forms of music.

Well with the comments by some people on this forum, it would seem there are a lot of people like what I describe.
