    We were just talking about him yesterday after Mass!   I would love to see the picture when you are finished.  Although I never met him, it seems to me that I read somewhere that he had hazel (or green) eyes.  If you can find no one that remembers let me know and I will ask in my neck of the woods.

    Myrna,
    go to the bookstore and ask the nuns if they can dig out a pic from the archives.
    His pic is also on a plaque in the vestibule of the Mount.

  • Yes, Amy, but it is black and white, I have finished the painting and will scan it.  I painted his eyes brown, but I can change them easily to hazel.

    I do believe he is a Saint.  Why God took him away from us, I will never know unless we just didn't deserve him.
    Please pray for my soul.

    Do you know of anyone that has prayed to him and gotten a miraculous answer?  What you say about him appears to be the general consensus - that he was an extraordinarily holy priest.

  • Actually Axexandria, this is a strange true story:  Soon after he passed away, maybe one year.  My son who was married and his wife got pregnant with another mans baby.

    At the same time, my daughter was praying to get pregnant because she could not, and had already adopted one little girl, that was also a miracle.  (Another story)

    My son could not accept the child and my daughter-in-law wanted to make amends.  She was an Indian girl and she thought of adopting the child to someone but the only person that she would consider giving her child to was my daughter.  However the law is that if you are white, you can not adopt an Indian child anywhere in the U.S.  So we as a family never considered this happening.

    I went to Fr. Denis's grave and made a novena to him, twofold, that my son and daughter-in-law would get back together, and that my daughter would receive a second baby to adopt, never asking for the Indian baby.

    The miracle was that, my daughter-in-law went to her Indian tribe and pleaded with them to make an exception to the Indian rule, it went to trial there, and then to Olympia Washington to get approved by the U.S.A.
    Making a long story short, my daughter adopted the Indian baby, and my son and daughter-in-law got back together.

    However, and so very sad, was the child we adopted passed away at the age of 3 years old, so grieved was my daughter and her husband, I thought they would lose their faith.  Father Dominic advised us to accept the Will of God and He, God, would bless us threefold.   My daughter was so unhappy, she wanted to give up and die.  She asked me if I knew any Saints to pray to, that might give her back the will to live.  I told her to pray to St. Therese because she lost all her infant brothers, and had much to say about little ones going home early.

    My daughter prayed and prayed to St. Therese, making one novena after another, just asking for the will to carry on.
    It was around that time that the Vatican was passing the relics of St. Therese around the world, and when the relic came to Seattle, my daughter her husband drove to venerate them.  She pressed the picture of her son to the relic and asked for a consolation, that was January.  Nine months later she gave birth to a boy on the Feast of St. Therese, Oct 3 Traditional Calender, and since then she gave birth to 2 other children making that THREE.  "God will repay you THREEFOLD"!

    Sorry, but my miracle story started with Fr. Denis and ended with St. Therese.

    Please pray for my soul.

  • What an inspiring story about how God rewards us when we each say our personal "Fiat" to His Will!  Myrna, is that the little boy you once wrote an article about in the Reign of Mary?

    That settles it!  I am going to pray to Fr. Denis.  Whenever I come up to the Mount I always make a point of visiting his grave, and I often pull out the issue of the Reign of Mary that was dedicated to him.   As a matter of fact,  I'm going to go dig it out and read it...again!

  • Yes, when Victor died I was so inspired to write that story in the Reign of Mary.

    Here is my finished painting of Fr. Denis, I am hoping to use it for a fund raiser.  This year I have a graduate living with me, and they would like each family that has a graduate come up with a fund raiser for that Senior Class, for expenses at the end of the school term.   If Fr. Casimir agrees and if he would add something to this painting i.e. Fr. Denis rosary or something, I thought it would make a nice raffle during the Conference coming up for the Senior Class of 2010.

    Oppps!  Just noticed I have to fix that one eye!

    Please pray for my soul.

  • This is from the issue of the Reign of Mary that was dedicated to him.  It says that the following poem was a great consolation in the midst of the trial of life to him.  I carry a copy of it myself in my Missal as I could make it my own too:

    I WILL NOT DOUBT

    I will not doubt, though all my prayers return
    Unanswered from the still white realm above;
    I shall believe it is an all-wise Love
    Which has refused those things for which I yearn.
    And though at times I cannot keep from grieving,
    Yet the pure ardor of my fixed believing,
    Undimmed shall burn.

    I will not doubt, though sorrows fall like rain,
    And troubles swarm like bees about a hive;
    I shall believe the heights for which I strive
    Are only reached by anguish and by pain;
    And though I groan and tremble 'neath my crosses
    I yet shall see through my severest losses
    The greater gain.

    I will not doubt, though all my ships at sea
    Come drifting home with broken masts and sails;
    I shall believe the Hand that never fails
    from seeming evil worketh good for me;
    And though I weep because those sails are battered,
    Still will I cry while my best hopes are shattered:

    O Sacred Heart of Jesus,
    I place my trust in Thee!

  • I'm holding the magazine in my hand.  Did you use that portrait of him with a cassock and surplice on for your picture?  If you fix that other eye, it will look quite like him!  That's very good Myrna.    You must have used the picture I am referring to because I notice all of the detail you have in your painting.

    If I can get to the conference, I'll buy some chances myself!  In fact, I'll ask Fr. Denis to let me win it!!

  • Yes, that is the only picture I know of that has a good close up of his face, and every picture is always black and white.

    I fixed the eye, and it looks much better now.

    I am happy I scanned it into the computer because for some reason, it is so easy to spot the little errors, and they are easy to fix since I use watercolors when I paint.  Just a little  dab of water and blot;  presto.
    Please pray for my soul.
