In elementary school, we were taught that feudalism was bad, bad, bad since it limited personal freedom. The drumbeat of liberty was relentless. No surprise that so many grew up to become either rootless in their despair or else deft users of other people.
Contrast that modernist non serviam with the feudal system of rightly ordered interpersonal obligations both to one's superiors and to one's dependents.
