  • I read that Nobuo Uematsu was influenced by Beethoven and other classical greats. He actually writes his pieces with similar structure -- there is design, order, rationality in his various works.

He was able to create pure coherent melodies, the kinds of melodies you instantly recognize as good (as opposed to "develop a taste for"), things you can sing, whistle or hum by yourself. You don't get that nowadays with modern movies, video games, etc. -- the technology is too advanced.

But in the 8-bit and 16-bit era of video games, all you had was synthesized music. So all you had was melody and harmony! And this composer stands out head and shoulders above all the rest who tried their hand at composing melodies for these music chips.

It's an example of how some of the best creative works come about when the means are LIMITED. It gives some structure to the creativity. When you can do literally anything, creativity is much more difficult.

  • YES

I've loved his soundtracks for years. They are magnificent, especially the piano renditions of the many Final Fantasy theme songs

Aerith's Theme is one of his best.
"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

  • I like this kind of rendition -- it's richer.

  • Speaking of modern composers....Jerry Goldsmith

I love this piece, as we are introduced to the most beautiful star faring vessel ever made, the refit USS Enterprise.
Happy, happy memories of 1979. Sigh.....

Da pacem Domine in diebus nostris
    Qui non est alius
    Qui pugnet pro nobis
    Nisi  tu Deus noster
