  • A rather asian looking and untraditional Mary(not OUr Lady of Akita, either-not feminine, nor serene):

    Modern Cathedral:

Inside the Cathedral (looks like Swaggerts congregation-plain and Prot like):

AMChurch's version of an altar (not sure what is to the left, looks like a cash machine):

  • Thank you. I was wanting to see a picture of the original cathedral.

I'm sorry but that piece of crap needs to be burned down. The smallest independent chapel is a thousand times more beautiful than that monstrosity.

A pile of good soil, because natural, is more beautiful :)

  • The original cathedral St. Viviana's was built in 1876. A
    beautiful church inside, and outside.
The day the wrecking ball came, some people went to
jail to stop the demolition, just in time a court order
came down to stopped it.  The church with all its
history, and grander could have been restored and
    continued as the cathedral today.
It was later purchased by wealthy private party,
and restored not as a church, but a meeting hall.
I would never give that new cathedral a glance, nor
would I ever go near it. It is a such a ugly
monstrosity. Instead I visit the old Plaza Church.
There was an another beautiful historic Catholic
in downtown Los Angeles, that burned down just
after that film true confessions was filmed in it.
A judgment from God because of the content of
    that film.
I forgot the name of that church.

  • St. Viviana's Cathedral, Los Angeles

I'd have rather seen it torn down than to have seen this. Terrible.

It's actually a night club, I believe. I doubt the name Jesus is mentioned there any longer.

I mean will you look at that altar? It was gorgeous. What a waste, a tragedy really.

  • RomanCatholic1953's words are true. A whole lot of Novus Ordo-ites get all puffed up when you ask why their churches are so ugly. They always say things like "oh, well we can't waste all that money on churches like they used to".

First of all, those hideous Novus Ordo churches cost fortunes to build, when a less expensive and beautiful church can be built to the glory of God.

Second of all, this just reveals their own upside down priorities. It cost fortunes to build the first and second temples in the Old Testament. God deserves ONLY the very best that man can give (of course this depends on circuмstances as well. for example in a poor rural area, a small simple chapel still gives glory to God).

  • SAD, I Can Cry,
Going to Jail, and getting a police record just
to save St  Viviana's from the wrecking ball,
such a waste after seeing those above pictures
of a night club in the former cathedral of
    Los Angeles. :plant:
